No. 11 West Texas A&M Hosts Cameron for Dig Pink Night

CANYON, Texas – The No. 11 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs return to the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" for midweek action as they host Cameron for Dig Pink Night on Wednesday, Oct. 26. First serve of the conference matchup is set for 6 p.m. against the Aggies. 
 
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

The Aggies come to Canyon with a 5-22 overall record and 0-12 record in league play with their last victory coming from a sweep over Western New Mexico on Sept. 8 led by fourth year head coach Brandon Stephenson. 
 
WT leads the all-time series 53-3 with a seven game win streak against the Aggies including a perfect 26-0 record in Canyon.  In their last meeting, the Lady Buffs defeated CU in three straight in Lawton, Okla. 
 
CU is hitting .127 as a team led by junior outside Arianna Navarrete.  The Tucson, Ariz., product totals 296 kills on the season (3.12/set) on 1,047 attempts with 154 errors to hit .136 while her younger sister Anjolie Navarrete has fed the offense with 438 assist (4.66/set) this season. The sisters are leading the program with 31 service aces each. 
 
On defense, Meagan Jimenez has 349 digs (4.15) to lead the back row while Caitlyn Henderson has a team-high 92.0 blocks with 11 of those registered as solo blocks. 
 
WEEKLY AWARDS
WT's Kayla Elliott and Ainsley Malis received Lone Star Conference weekly awards on Tuesday to mark the ninth time this season the program has received the recognition joining Blair Moreland, Taytum Stow, Torrey Miller and Emma Patterson.
 
Elliott, a product of Wildomar, Calif., was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career as she helped WT limit opponents to hit just .067 last week.  The senior totaled a team-high 29 points on the week with 12 blocks, 20 kills, seven digs, and three service aces while hitting .436 with a season-high 14 kills against ENMU.
 
Malis earned her second Setter of the Week honor of the season as she helped guide a Lady Buff offense that hit .291 on the week while recording her fourth double-double of the year with 25 assists with 10 digs against ENMU.  Malis totaled 41 assists which averaged 5.86 per set to go along with three service aces and ranks 12th in the league in assists average at 5.05.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
WT houses one of the best home environments in the country across all of NCAA volleyball.  Built in 1951, the WTAMU Fieldhouse, best known as "The Box" is home to 20 Lone Star Conference Championships, 14 regional titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships.  At "The Box", the Lady Buffs are 517-83 since 1980 for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2% and 90.6% during conference play.  
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR 
WT leads the conference standings with a perfect 12-0 record followed by DBU (11-1), Texas A&M International (10-1), St. Mary's (10-3), UT Tyler (8-3), Texas A&M-Kingsville (8-3), Angelo State (7-5), and UT Permian Basin (6-6) rounding out the top eight. The top eight programs from the conference will advance to the league tournament on Nov. 10-12 hosted on the campus of the top seed. 
 
IN THE POLLS
MSU Denver jumped atop the national standings after Wayne State suffered its first loss of the season. The Roadrunners received 26 of the 47 first place votes to rank No. 1 followed by Concordia-St. Paul (3-fpv), Wayne State (18-fpv), Minnesota Duluth and Southwest Minnesota State rounding out the top five.
 
The loaded South Central Region has four other schools presented in the poll with WT (11th), Regis (17th), Colorado Mesa (19th), and Colorado School of Mines (21st) while DBU and Colorado State-Pueblo are receiving votes.
 
MAKE IT A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Four players have recorded double-doubles this season with Abi Nash, Torrey Miller, Ainsley Malis, and Blair Moreland totaling 13.  Torrey Miller leads the category with seven on the season which includes 118 kills and 91 digs. Malis is second with four followed by Nash and Moreland each with one. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs extended their win streak out to 13 after defeating Eastern New Mexico in four sets for the 600th home match.  WT recorded 61 kills in the victory, the second most this season, with 20 errors on 154 attempts to hit .273 while registering 55 assists, 68 digs, 11 blocks and five service aces.    
 
Three Lady Buffs reached double figure kills led by freshman outside hitter Emma Becker who posted a season- and match-high 17 kills on 30 swings with six errors to hit .367 followed by Kayla Elliott's season-high 14 and Torrey Miller with 12. Ainsley Malis led the offense with 25 assists to go along with 10 digs for the double-double while Blair Moreland followed closely behind with 22 assists.  Sophomore Bryli Contreras was a force in the back row, collecting a season-high 23 digs while Elliott had six total blocks to lead the with a match-high 18 points. 
 
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
WT is hitting .258 as a team which ranks second in the Lone Star Conference while leading the league in kills per set (13.88), points per set (17.87) and blocks per set (2.48) while also limiting opponents to hit just .133 which is the lowest in the league. 
 
The Lady Buffs are represented in the Top 10 of the LSC individual leaderboards of the with freshman Taytum Stow leading the league in blocks per frame (1.27).  Four Lady Buffs rank in the Top 20 in hitting percentage with Stow in third at .358 followed by Emma Becker (7th; .318), Kayla Elliott (9th; .307) and Torrey Miller (18th; .263).  
 
WT HEAD COACH KENDRA POTTS
Kendra Potts is in her fourth season at the helm of Lady Buff Volleyball with an overall 78-20 (.796) record and 49-10 (.831) in league play.  Potts led her alma mater to the program's 14th NCAA Elite Eight Appearance after capturing the South Central Regional title to become the sixth head coach in program history to guide WT to the Elite Eight. 
 
MAKING HISTORY
Following the LSC opening weekend, WT swept the LSC weekly awards for the first time since 2011 as Ainsley Malis was named the Setter of the Week while Torrey Miller and Taytum Stow earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.  The trio became the first Lady Buffs to sweep the weekly honors since Nov. 2, 2011, with Ashley Davis, Erin Dougherty, and Lacy Hayes where WT finished 34-3 overall. 
 
BRITKARE COURT
WT Athletics proudly announced a new state-of-the-art court for the historic home of Lady Buff Volleyball thanks to a generous gift from BritKare Home Medical that highlighted the 2021 season.   ­BritKare Court at The Box features a top-line Taraflex court surface that is widely used in Division I arenas, professional volleyball and was most recently featured at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.  Since BritKare Court's installment, the Lady Buffs have posted an incredible 22-1 record with a winning percentage of 95.7%. 
 
LIVE COVERAGE
A live stream and stats will be provided by the WT Athletic Communications department for Wednesday's match which will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.  Fans will be able to purchase a $10 daily pass that will give them access to all contests on the network that day as well as access to previously aired games from the current season for 24 hours.

Following the match against the Aggies, WT will head to Silver City, N.M., to take on the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 28. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Drag's Court.
