CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes take flight for their longest road trip of the season as they head to Monmouth, Oregon to take on the Western Oregon Wolves with kickoff set for 3:05 p.m. at McArthur Field.

- West Texas A&M is playing their 109th season of football as they hold an overall record of 526-521-2 (.502) dating back to the 1910 campaign.

- The Buffs came out firing against #5 Colorado School of Mines last Saturday, taking a 13-0 lead into the locker room for halftime before allowing 21 second half points by the Orediggers in a 21-13 defeat at Buffalo Stadium.

- Saturday marks the first ever meeting on the gridiron between West Texas A&M and Western Oregon. It also marks WT's first ever trip to the State of Oregon and the first ever contest against an Oregon based university.

- Western Oregon enters the week with an overall record of 1-3 following a 24-7 victory on the road last Saturday in British Columbia over Simon Fraser. The Wolves started the season with three consecutive losses at #10 Colorado School of Mines (42-3), Texas A&M-Kingsville (24-10) and at Portland State (21-7).

- The Buffs remain outside of LSC action this weekend but the conference slate features just one contest this weekend as Western New Mexico visits Angelo State. Fort Lauderdale travels to Commerce while Lincoln (Ca.) makes their way to Portales, UT Permian Basin has cancelled their game at Simon Fraser and Midwestern State travels to Central Washington.

A LOOK AT THE WOLVES
WOU enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 following a 24-7 road victory at Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves have been outscored by their opponents 94-44 so far this season.Â

The Wolves registered 412 yards of total offense against the Clan with 330 of those coming on the ground. Ryan Worthey went 14-of-27 thru the air for 87 yards while Omari Land ran the ball 25 times for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Curtis Anderson and Ryan Minniti each registered six tackles in the win.

WOU HEAD COACH ARNE FERGUSON
Arne Ferguson is now in his 17th season at the helm of the Western Oregon football program. The former defensive standout for the Wolves holds an overall record of 91-75 during his time in Monmouth.

Ferguson has produced nine All-Americans and a pair of NFL draftees during his time on the sidelines for the Wolves. WOU claimed a share of the program's first GNAC Championship in 2019 as Ferguson was named the GNAC Coach of the Year.

HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 22-21 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 21 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.Â

Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.

THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The Lone Star Conference has eight teams set to compete in 2021. Each team will play seven conference games to determine the LSC Champion. The 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the LSC did not sponsor a spring season in the sport of football.

WEEK FOUR RECAP
The Buffaloes came out swinging in an LSC/RMAC prize fight last Saturday night as they took a 13-0 lead into the locker room at halftime before the #5 Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines showed consistency in the second half as they held on for a 21-13 victory at Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas.

Nick Gerber finished the night going 12-of-23 for 186 yards and one touchdown to go along with an interception.
Noah Bogardus caught four passes for 42 yards while
Hunter Kaufman had two catches for 77 yards and a score.
Khalil Harris finished the game with 15 rushes for 88 yards. Defensively,
Cole Oster led the way with 15 tackles (two solo) followed by
JT Cavender with 14 (four solo).

BUFFALO STADIUM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.Â

The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.

TRAVELING THE MILES
The Buffaloes make the 1,741 mile trip to Monmouth, Oregon on Saturday for WT's first ever trip to the Beaver State.
Â
Saturday will be the longest road trip by the Buffs in the last two decades, WT traveled to Bellingham, Washington (1,827 miles) on September 16, 2000 and fell to Western Washington 41-17 at Civic Stadium. The Vikings discontinued their football program in 2008.
