Kaputin Ready to Compete in Long Jump at Olympics

CANYON, Texas –
 Former West Texas A&M Lady Buff Rellie Kaputin opens her Olympic games on Saturday, July 31, when she competes in the long jump at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. 
 
She will become the second former WT student-athlete to represent Papua New Guinea at the Olympics when she takes the runway as former All-American Theo Piniau competed in the 200-meters at the 2016 Olympics. 
 
The qualification round of the long jump is scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 31, at 7:50 p.m. CT. Results can be found HERE.
 
During her time in Canyon, she won three individual national titles while earning First Team All-American honors 11 times. She is also one of three Lady Buffs to be named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Field Athlete of the Year in 2017 after scoring 21 points at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. 
 
Kaputin scored 22 points including a win in the triple jump at the 2017 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships en route to helping the Lady Buffs win their first National Championship in program history. She would finish her illustrious career at the 2018 NCAA DII Indoor Championships scoring 16 points including a win in the long jump and helping the team win the team title.
