Harris Named Preseason All-American by Lindy’s Sports

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Tobias Harris has been named a Second Team Preseason All-American by Lindy's Sports college football preview magazine.

Harris, a junior from Pflugerville, enters the 2021 season having earned All-American honors three times as a sophomore in 2019 where he broke the program record in punt return yards in a single season and career. That season he ranked first in NCAA Division II and second in the nation in punt return average behind Alabama Jaylen Waddle, who was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the sixth overall pick in this year's draft.

He returned 19 punts for 436 yards and a touchdown while also recording 571 kick return yards and a touchdown. He scored the game-winning touchdown on a 72-yard punt return int WT's comeback victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. He also ranked third on the team in tackles with 68.

He was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year in 2018 after recording 819 total return yards, the ninth most in NCAA DII. He scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 66-yard punt return in a 42-21 victory over UT Permian Basin. He also started in all 11 games at cornerback finishing with a team-high seven interceptions and two touchdowns.

WT opens the 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 2, against Texas College in the friendly confines of Buffalo Stadium.
