LUBBOCK, Texas – The #6 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M set a new program record with their 14
th consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon with a 8-3 win over the Lubbock Christian Chaps to complete the Lone Star Conference sweep at Hays Field.
The Buffs took the lead in the top of the second inning as
Izaiah Madrid doubled to the gap in left center as
Will Fuenning scored all the way from first base with one out for the 1-0 lead.
Reese Patterson added to the WT lead in the top of the third as the senior singled thru the left side with two outs to score
Keone Givens at 2-0 followed later in the inning by a Madrid two-run single to center to run the lead to 4-0.
The Chaps got on the board in the home half of the sixth inning as Luis Navarro lifted a solo homerun to left center with two outs to cut the lead to 4-1, LCU would draw a walk followed by a pair of singles as Cade Hensley singled to center to score Mason Donohoe before
Cooper Harris entered from the pen and slammed the door with a big strikeout at 4-2.
LCU cut into the lead in the home half of the eighth as Hensley drew a bases loaded walk with one out before
Carter Brown settled in with a pair of strikeouts to limit the damage and end the frame.
WT added insurance runs in the ninth as Givens started the frame with a triple to center followed by a
Kennedy Badgett triple to right to make it 5-3, the Buffs weren't done yet at Fuenning doubled to left followed by a
Kyle Moos RBI single up the middle and a Madrid squeeze bunt to make it 8-3.
Todd Danzeisen picked up the win (5-0) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing no runs on just two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work. Brown picked up his fourth save of the season and his second of the weekend, allowing no runs on no hits with two walks and four strikeouts in the final 1.2 frames.
The Buffs return to Wilder Park next weekend as they host the rival #11 Rams of Angelo State in a three-game Lone Star Conference series starting on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Canyon.
