SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team picked up a Lone star Conference victory as they defeated No. 10 St. Mary's on Tuesday night. The Buffs defeated the Rattlers 2-1 with the help of two goals from newcomer Giancarlo Saldana as both teams moved to 2-1-0 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
WT set the tone of the game early as Beau Johnson opened the first minute of play with a chance at the match's first goal as the sophomore's attempt went wide. Giancarlo Saldana was awarded a penalty kick in the 12th minute to score for the Buffs after drawing a foul by StMU's keeper Raul Guillamon-Bejar.
The Buffs doubled their lead as Saldana beat the keeper 20 yards out after collecting a pass from Denis Herrera for his first game-winner in the Maroon and White to lead 2-0 at the half.
StMU got on the board in the 63rd minute as Collins Gitau's shot from Lewis Wilson found the back of the net to cut the Buffs lead to one. WT held onto their lead until the end as the Rattler's were unable to get a shot off to level the score securing the Buffs 2-1 victory.
The Buffs outshot the Rattlers 6-5 as each team landed three shots on goal. Alexander Vencel earned the start between the post as the senior registered two saves in 90 minutes to move to 2-1-0 on the season.
