CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes return home for Lone Star Conference action this Saturday night as the LSC-leading #21 Mustangs of Midwestern State make the trip to Buffalo Stadium with kickoff set for 6 p.m. in Canyon.
- West Texas A&M is playing their 109th season of football as they hold an overall record of 529-524-2 (.502) dating back to the 1910 campaign.
- West Texas A&M forced four turnovers and held on for a 35-23 victory on Saturday night in a physical game to spoil Homecoming at Javelina Stadium in Lone Star Conference action against rival Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- The Buffs lead the all-time series 18-15 against the Mustangs dating back to the 1947 season. MSU is 8-9 all-time in Canyon, dropping their last three road trips in the series including a 34-24 decision in the last meeting on Nov. 16, 2019 at Buffalo Stadium.
- The Mustangs enter the weekend atop of the Lone Star Conference standings following a 52-10 win over Western New Mexico on Saturday in Wichita Falls. Five-time LSC Coach of the Year Bill Maskill is now in his 20th season at the helm of the Mustangs.
- Week ten features three Lone Star Conference contests as the Buffs host Midwestern State while Texas A&M-Kingsville travels to Odessa and Texas A&M-Commerce hits the road to take on Angelo State. Central Washington makes the trip to Western New Mexico in non-conference action while Eastern New Mexico faces North American on the road.
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
The Mustangs enter the weekend atop of the Lone Star Conference standings following a 52-10 win over Western New Mexico on Saturday in Wichita Falls.
MSU scored 21 points in the first quarter and never looked back as they finished the game with 613 yards ot total offense with 349 of those coming thru the air. Dillon Sterling-Cole went 13-of-20 for 205 yards and three scores to go along with 33 rushing yards in the win.
MSU HEAD COACH BILL MASKILL
Five-time LSC Coach of the Year Bill Maskill is now in his 20th season at the helm of the Midwestern State Football program.
He holds an overall record of 149-59 during his time in Wichita Falls with eight trips to the NCAA Playoffs and four LSC Championships (2009, 2011, 2012, 2017).

HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 25-23 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 21 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.
Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.
THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The LSC has eight teams set to compete in 2021. Each team will play seven conference games to determine the LSC Champion. The 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the LSC did not sponsor a spring football season.
WEEK NINE RECAP
West Texas A&M forced four turnovers and held on for a 35-23 victory on Saturday night in a physical game to spoil Homecoming at Javelina Stadium in Lone Star Conference action against rival Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Nick Gerber finished the night going 11-of-15 thru the air with 153 yards and a pair of touchdown,
Jarrod Compton was dominant as the junior from Lubbock Coronado registered 179 yards of total offense with 147 of those coming on the ground with two scores.
Noah Bogardus led the way in the receiving core with three catches for 64 yards and a TD.
Defensively,
Satchel Escalante was the spark for the Buffs as the Casa Grande, Arizona native registered 12 total tackles (seven solo) to go along with two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fourth down stop inside the red zone.
JT Cavender also registered 12 tackles in the win to go along with a pick while
Eric Collins had eight tackles with two of those for a loss.
BUFFALO STADIUM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.

Tobias Harris has been named a nominee for the 2021 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Ten times during the 2021 college football season, three inspiring student-athletes from all levels of college football who have overcome injury, illness, or other challenges, are recognized as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Nominees.
In December, three of the 30 nominees will be chosen as winners and will be recognized at a special ceremony during the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2022.
