CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes conclude the regular season on Saturday night as they host the Bethel College Threshers on Senior Day at Buffalo Stadium with kickoff set for 11 a.m. in Canyon.
- West Texas A&M is playing their 109th season of football as they hold an overall record of 530-524-2 (.502) dating back to the 1910 campaign.
- West Texas A&M forced three turnovers and came up with big defensive stops all night long last Saturday as they outlasted the #21 Mustangs of Midwestern State (15-12) in Lone Star Conference action in Canyon.
- Saturday marks the first ever meeting on the gridiron between West Texas A&M and Bethel College. It also marks the first matchup between the Buffs and any current football member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
- The Threshers enter the weekend with an overall record of 9-1 as they ran their win streak to seven games last week with a 54-21 victory on the road against University of Saint Mary in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) action. The Threshers sit second in the KCAC standings entering the final weekend of the regular season.
- Week eleven will decide a Lone Star Conference Champion as Midwestern State sits atop of the league standings by one game, the Mustangs host UT Permian Basin on Saturday in Wichita Falls. The Buffs finished LSC action 5-2 overall as they host Bethel College while Texas A&M-Commerce hosts Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State makes the long trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville.
A LOOK AT THE THRESHERS
Bethel College enters the weekend on a seven-game win streak following a 54-21 road victory at the University of Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon to move to 9-1 overall.
The Threshers average 45.2 points per game while only allowing 17.1 per contest as the flexbone offense has averaged 419.7 yards per game on the ground this season to lead all of NAIA Football. Chantz Scurry has carried the ball 148 times for 1,141 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Threshers.
BC HEAD COACH TERRY HARRISON
The Threshers are guided by fourth year head coach Terry Harrison. He has led Bethel College to an overall record of 29-13 during his time in Newton including a 9-1 mark this season. Harrison came to Bethel from Wichita Heights High School, compiling a record of 38-16 over five seasons, winning four Kansas 5A Regional Championships.

HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 26-23 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 21 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.
Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.
THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The LSC has eight teams set to compete in 2021. Each team will play seven conference games to determine the LSC Champion. The 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the LSC did not sponsor a spring football season.
WEEK TEN RECAP
West Texas A&M forced three turnovers and made big defensive stops all night long as the Buffaloes outlasted the rival #21 Midwestern State Mustangs in Lone Star Conference action in front of almost 7,000 fans at Buffalo Stadium on Saturday night.
Nick Gerber finished the game going 12-of-22 thru the air with 117 yards to go along with 18 net yards on the ground,
Jarrod Compton carried the ball 30 times for 160 yards and a score while
Noah Bogardus caught three passes for 53 yards in the win. The Buffs finished the game with 325 yards of total offense as 208 of those came on the ground.
Defensively,
JT Cavender was all over the field for the Buffs as the Midlothian native registered 20 tackles (15 solo) to go along with a forced fumble, Chris Thomas finished the 11 tackles followed by
Eric Collins with eight as the senior moved into third place on WT's all-time tackles list to pass Carter James (304).
The 20 tackles by Cavender is the most by a Buffalo in a single-game since October 11, 2014 when James registered 21 tackles against the Mustangs in a 34-13 win at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. It also ties the second most tackled by a player in Division II football so far this season.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.
