No. 25 Lady Buffs Welcome Javelinas, Dustdevils to The Box

CANYON, Texas – The No. 25 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs return to Canyon this weekend to begin the final home stretch as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. With just six matches left of the regular-season WT will face TAMUK on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a match on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Dustdevils. 
 
The Lady Buffs will host costume contests for Halloween weekend for WT students for Friday's match and for younger students on Saturday.  The winner of WT's Halloween contest will receive a Joe Taco gift card while the youth contest winner will receive an autographed volleyball from the entire Lady Buff team. 
 
JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to Canyon with a 12-5 overall record and 6-5 mark in conference play under 11th-year head coach Tanya Allen.  The Javelinas average 12.5 kills per match to hit .204 while limiting opponents to a .163 hitting percentage which is the fifth lowest in the LSC. 
 
Jackie Alanis and Ayanna Jackson each average above three points to lead the Javelinas offense while Alanis compiles 3.66 kills per set.  On defense, Jackson holds a team-high 63.0 blocks while Nicole Muff leads the back row with 5.59 digs including a team-high 19 service aces. 
 
DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International is 3-15 (3-8 LSC) heading into weekend play with victories over Cameron, Texas Woman's, and Western New Mexico under 2nd-year head coach Brittany Harry. The Dustdevils average 14.28 points per set on 11.57 kills with 10.67 assists, 1.05 aces, 16.07 digs and 1.66 blocks.
 
Mackenzie Catalina leads the team with 4.04 points on 3.64 kills and 3.3 digs per set while Maison Kosse paces the offense with 8.63 assists and a team-high 13 total aces.  At the net Carly Unruh and Hannah Thompson combine for 77 of the Dustdevils blocks while. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs extended their win streak out to ten with a pair of sweeps over Midwestern State and Cameron with neither team registering more than 19 points in a single set as WT's defense limited the Mustangs and Aggies to a .004 hitting percentage. 
 
ALL-TIME GREAT
Vogel became the program's all-time digs leader after moving past former Lady Buff standout Lauren Beville who played from 2009-2012 and registered 2,423 digs.  The Hereford product passed the mark in the third set against Cameron (Oct. 23) with her 15th dig of the match before she finished the afternoon with a match-high 24, moving her career total to 2,433. 
 
AVCA DII TOP-25 POLL
WT ranked 25th in the latest AVCA national standings with victories over Midwestern State and Cameron in week eight.  WT is just one-of-three schools from the Lone Star Conference in the rankings joined by Angelo State (6th) and UT-Tyler (T-15th). 
 
MSU Denver ranks first in this week's national standings at 18-2 followed by Central Missouri (19-2), Northwest Missouri State (18-2), Washburn (19-3) and Cal State-San Bernardino (16-3) to round out the top five.  
 
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
The Lady Buffs rank second in the LSC standings at 16-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play.  WT is first in the conference in hitting percentage at .254 with the Lady Buffs averaging 13.6 kills per set and limiting opponents to hit .099 which is third in Division II.  As a team, WT collects 12.5 assists, 1.6 aces, 17.7 digs, and 2.4 blocks.  
 
Torrey Miller has a team-high 4.42 points per set as the sophomore averages 3.9 kills followed by Kayla Elliott with 3.29 (pt/s) with a team-high 23 aces and 47.0 blocks.  Junior Sadie Snay paces the offense with 5.59 assists while senior Chandler Vogel records a team-high 4.95 digs. 
 
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY!
WT has collected 149.0 blocks on the season averaging 2.4 which ranks first in the Lone Star Conference led by Kayla Elliott and Marjani Stanfill.  The two middle blockers have combined for 92 blocks with Elliott standing 11th in the conference leader board at .87 per set.   
 
WT HEAD COACH KENDRA POTTS
Kendra Potts is in her third season at the helm of Lady Buff Volleyball with an overall 48-13 record.  Potts led her alma mater to the South Central Regional Quarterfinals during her first season in 2019 to become just the fourth head coach in program history to guide WT to the NCAA Tournament during their first season.

West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. 
 
The Box boasts one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 504-82 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86%.
 
BRITKARE COURT
WT Athletics has proudly announced a new state-of-the-art court for the historic home of Lady Buff Volleyball to highlight the 2021 season thanks to a generous gift from Britkare Home Medical.   ­BritKare Court at The Box features a top-line Taraflex court surface that is widely used in Division I arenas, professional volleyball and was most recently featured at the just completed Tokyo Olympics.    
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The LSC champion will be determined by regular season games, while the postseason tournament winner is designated as LSC tournament champion and earns the conference's automatic qualification.  The top 12 teams will qualify for the postseason tournament with the opening round on campus Tuesday, Nov. 16, and the final eight teams at the No. 1 seed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 18-19-20.
 
LSC DIGITAL NETWORK
Fans will be able to purchase a $10 daily pass that will give them access to all football, volleyball and basketball contests on the network that day as well as access to previously aired games from the current season for 24 hours. Fans can also purchase a $50 volleyball season pass that will give them access to all Lone Star Conference volleyball matches.  In addition to live and archived streaming options, viewers will have the option to purchase and download games from the 2021 season for $10 each.
