CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M opened Lone Star Conference action with a pair of victories over Western New Mexico on Friday night, defeating the Mustangs 6-4 and 14-2.
Sophomore
Ruby Salzman recorded two home runs in the sweep to lead the Lady Buffs with four RBI while
Brittany Cruz drove in three on three hits.

Game 1 Score: WT 6, WNMU 4
The Mustangs opened scoring early on a RBI single to take a 1-0 before doubling their score with a fielder's choice. WT responded in the second with a single by Cruz to score Salzman from third to bring the score within one.
A double down the left field line would advance the Mustangs lead to make it 4-1.
Malaya Delfin would steal second to draw the throw to score the runner on third to cut WNMU's lead in the fifth.
The Lady Buffs found their rythym with a two-run RBI double by
Steph Elliott to level the game before taking the lead with an RBI single by Cruz. A single by
Marley Basurto would score the runner from second to add an insurance run.
Emily Wilson (3-3) was lights out on the mound for the Lady Buffs, throwing a career high nine strikeouts. The sophomore allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk.
Game 2 Score: WT 14, WNMU 2
After drawing the walk,
Shanna McBroom scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Buffs and early 1-0 lead before a two-run home run by Kaila Burnett put the Mustangs ahead.
Western New Mexico's lead was short lived as the Lady Buffs would add nine runs to take control of the game. The Lady Buffs would tie the score with a solo home run by
Ruby Salzman before a two-run double by
Shanna McBroom put WT back on top to make it 4-2.
The Lady Buffs added 10 more runs to the board to secure the run-rule home victory.
Sydney Greeson (1-0) earned the victory in her first career start allowing two runs on two hits with a career-high four strikeouts and two walks through three complete innings.
Danielle Garcia threw two innings for the Lady Buffs, allowing one hit with five strikeouts.
