West Texas A&M Falls on the Road to #19 UT Tyler, 7-0

TYLER, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes struggled at the plate as they were shutout for the first time this season on Thursday night, falling to the #19 UT Tyler Patriots at Irwin Field in Tyler, Texas during Lone Star Conference action.
 
The Buffs and Patriots now head into an uncertain time in Division II Athletics as the Lone Star Conference has suspended competitions beginning tonight at Midnight thru March 30th due to the COVID-19 virus. Institutional officials will have numerous meeting in the coming days and weeks to decide on a plan for the remainder of the Spring after Thursday's NCAA announcement of the DII College World Series being cancelled.

RECAP:
The Patriots got on the board in the first inning as Riley Jepson connected on a solo homerun to left with one out to make it 1-0. UTT used the long ball again in the second as Kyle McShaffry lifted a two-run shot the other way to left at 3-0.
 
Tyler added to their lead in the sixth as Zach Sanchez double down the left field line to score McShaffry and knock Mathieu Gauthier from the game at 4-0. The Patriots added to their lead with a Tanner Roach two-run double down the left field line for the 6-0 lead.
 
Tyler continue to add to the lead in the eighth as Roach doubled down the left field line for the 7-0 lead.
 
Gauthier picked up the loss (2-2) for the Buffs, allowing five earned runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts in his 5.1 innings of work.
