LUBBOCK, Texas – Four Lady Buffs recorded home runs as West Texas A&M spilt the first day of the LCU Invitational. WT defeated UT Permian Basin in a 11-3 run-rule victory before coming up short to No. 24 Tarleton State, 3-2.
Alyx Cordell,
Steph Elliott and
Sydney Greeson each tallied two homeruns while Julia Guzman had one.

The bats were rolling early and often for WT as the Lady Buffs registered 11 runs on 11 hits, including five home runs.
WT fell behind in the top of the second as the Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly ball to center. The Lady Buffs immediately responded with two runs as
Steph Elliott doubled down the left field line to score
Alyx Cordell from second before scoring on a single by
Malaya Delfin.
The Falcons leveled the game in the third before the Lady Buffs took control of the game, scoring five unanswered runs with the help of three home runs. Julia Guzman sent one deep into right center with her first collegiate home run as the second baseman gave WT the go ahead 3-2 lead.
Sydney Greeson drew the walk before
Alyx Cordell sent one deep and over to left to add to the board. The Lady Buffs added insurance runs with a solo home run by Elliott and an RBI single by Delfin to make it 7-2.
WT tallied three more hits in the bottom of the fourth, including home runs by
Sydney Greeson and Cordell. UTPB added a run to the board after loading the bases but a ground out to the mound secured the run-rule victory.
Kyra Lair (8-4) was rewarded the victory against the Falcons, allowing two runs (two earned) on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts in three complete innings.
Emilee Wilson threw two innings for the Lady Buffs and allowed one run on three hits.

The Lady Buffs opened scoring the second inning as
Steph Elliott sent one high and out to left field for her second home run of the day to give WT the go ahead 1-0 lead.
WT held the Texans in the top half of the third before another home run by
Sydney Greeson doubled the Lady Buffs lead.
Tarleton immediately responded taking advantage of three errors to score three unanswered runs to make it 3-2. TSU's defense held the Lady Buffs to move to 2-0 at the round robin.
Emilee Wilson (0-3) was credited the loss as the sophomore allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.
West Texas A&M returns to action at PlainsCapital Park tomorrow with two more contests. WT faces off against Eastern New Mexico at 4 p.m. CT before taking on Lubbock Christian at 6 p.m. for the final game of the LCU Invitational.
