ODESSA, Texas – Four Lady Buffs drove in two runs as No. 9 West Texas A&M split Saturday's doubleheader against UT Permian Basin at Falcon Field in Odessa, Texas. After dropping the first game, 3-1, the Lady Buffs responded with a 12-3 victory in the final game of the series where Ruby Salzman recorded her third multi home run game of the season.

Kourtney Coveney opened the game with a one out double before coming around to score on Kylee Moore's single to center field in the top of the first inning. Shayne Starkey was dealing in the circle for the Lady Buffs retiring nine of the first 10 batters that she faced.
WT had a golden opportunity to add to their lead in the top of the fourth inning after loading the bases with two outs but came away empty handed. That would prove costly as UTPB tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on Alyssa Lopez two out single to right field with two outs. The Lady Buffs would threaten to score again in the fifth inning with runners on second and third with one out but the score remained tied. 
The missed opportunities came back to haunt the Lady Buffs as UTPB took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on Choco Munoz's two run home run. WT was unable to rally in the top of the seventh inning as they suffered their first LSC loss of the season. 
Starkey (7-2) was credited with the loss after allowing three runs (three earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

WT opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with three runs with two of the runs coming on a fielding error from the Falcons. The bases were loaded with one out after Coveney walked, Miranda Groenhuis was hit by a pitch and Moore singled through the right side. Following the second out of the inning, UTPB's shortstop couldn't handle Shanna McBroom's hard-hit ball as two Lady Buffs came around to score. India Holland would make it 3-0 with a single to center field that scored Moore. 
The Lady Buffs would add another run in the top of the second inning on a Coveney one out double to center field. Alyx Cordell was the runner that scored after leading the inning off with a double. UTPB would cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning with a Munoz's home run and RBI single from Abby Hernandez. Salzman's ninth home run of the season in the top of the third inning made it 5-2 in favor of WT.
After a scoreless fourth inning, WT would add two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on Salzman's second home run of the game and 10thof the season. The freshman took the 1-1 offering deep over the wall in left field to extend WT's lead to 7-2. The Falcons would a run back in the bottom half of the inning a Vanessa Alonzo's two out single up the middle. 
WT would take control of the game in the top of the sixth inning with five runs on five hits. Brittany Cruz and Cordell started the inning with single with Starkey loading the bases with a six-pitch walk. Up next, Coveney would drive in a run with a single through the right side followed by a double down the left field line by Grotenhuis to plate two more. Moore would inflict further damage with a two-run single up the middle to make it 12-3. 
Coveney (1-3) sat the Falcons down in order in the bottom of the sixth as the senior went all six innings allowing three runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.Â
