#15 Buffs Start Fast and Roll Past #11 Angelo State in the Series Opener, 12-1

CANYON, Texas – The #15 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M returned home in stellar fashion on Friday night as they plated six runs in the opening frame and never looked back, senior Joe Corbett registered 11 strikeouits in a 12-1 run-rule victory in Lone Star Conference action against the #11 Angelo State Rams at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Buffs and Rams continues their weekend series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 4 p.m. at Wilder Park.

RECAP:
Keone Givens tripled down the right field line on the game's first pitch followed by a Nick Guaragna RBI single for the early lead, Clay Koelzer singled to left center as Guaragna moved to third followed two hitters by a Jaxxon Fagg ground-rule double to left to drive in another. Christian Loya grounded out to second to score a run followed by a Darius Carter RBI single down the left field line, the Buffs weren't done yet as Cade Engle doubled down the right and a Justice Nakagawa two-run single up the middle to make it 6-0.
 
The Rams got on the board in the top of the third inning as Nic Novak singled to left field with two outs to score Jackson Hardy and cut the lead to 6-1, the Buffs responded immediately as Carter doubled home Loya with no outs to make it 7-1. WT added to their lead in the home half of the fourth as Koelzer singled up the middle to drive in Guaragna with no outs followed later in the inning by a Loya sac fly to center and a Carter RBI single down the left field line at 10-1.
 
The Buffs walked it off in the home half of the seventh inning as Loya started the frame with a triple off of the left field wall followed two batters later by a twio-run bomb to left center by Engle to end the game at 12-1. Corbett picked up the win (7-0) for the Buffs, allowing just one run on five hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts in the complete game victory.
