LAWTON, Okla. – No. 6 West Texas A&M struggled at the plate recording a total of eight hits as they dropped the first two games of their Lone Star Conference series to Cameron on Thursday afternoon at McMahon Field. The Lady Buffs and Aggies finish the series on Friday, March 22, at 2 p.m.

GAME ONE
WT trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning when Kylee Moore and Shanna McBroom reached based with one out. Moore walked for the second time in the game followed by a single to left from McBroom before CU's Rylee Willmon recorded two straight outs to end the scoring threat for the Lady Buffs.
They had their best chance to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth loading the bases with two outs but a called third strike ended the threat. Ruby Salzman picked up her second hit of the game with a one out single up the middle before advancing to second on a groundout to the pitcher. Miranda Grotenhuis and Moore walked to the load the bases but Kourtney Coveney was called out on strikes to end the inning. CU would score four runs in the bottom half of the inning to hand the Buffs their first five inning run rule loss of the season.
Kyra Lair (12-2) suffered the loss allowing eight runs (eight earned) on 13 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The Aggies struck first for the second straight game in the top of the first inning with four straight hits including a two RBI single from Callie Busby. WT had a chance to cut into the lead in the top of the second inning after loading the bases with two outs. Moore reached base with a leadoff walk followed by two out walk, this time from Amelya Huggins. Erica Vessels would single to center field to load the bases but Alyx Cordell flied out to end the inning.
Shayne Starkey would settle down in the circle retiring 15 of the next 17 batters that she would face including three strikeouts. The Lady Buffs scored for the first time in the doubleheader in the top of the sixth on sac fly to left from Starkey. Vessels reached base with one out before advancing to second on a wild pitch with Cordell singling through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and third with one out. Starkey would put one deep enough in left to score Vessels cutting the deficit to 2-1. Coveney's single to center would force a pitching change by the Aggies with Bethany Hines coming in to record the final out of the game.
Starkey (9-3) was credited with the loss after holding the Aggies to two runs (two earned) on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
