Lady Buffs Drop Overtime Thriller to Lubbock Christian

FRENSHIP, Texas – West Texas A&M saw their four-game win streak come to end on Thursday afternoon in a 3-2 overtime loss to Lubbock Christian. The loss drops the Lady Buffs to 9-7-0 overall and 8-4-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Lady Buffs conceded the opening goal for the seventh time this season on a strike from distance from LCU's Maddie Hoel. The visitors nearly saw themselves down 2-0 in the 31st minute as the Lady Chaps recorded five shots in matter of 15 seconds after an unsuccessful clearance in the penalty area.

Khaline Jacob tied the game at 1-all two minutes later with her eight goal of the season. The senior made a nice run towards the right side of the penalty to get on the end of Calista Cordero's pass before beating the keeper.

Both teams would strike in the opening 15 minutes of the second half beginning with Hannah Kelley-Lusk's goal in the 52ndminute. The junior was the recipient of a beautiful ball from Jessica Diaz down the right side of the pitch where she beat the keeper at the near post for her eighth of the season and 20th of her career. The Lady Chaps would equalize in the 59thminute on a goal from Allison Scott.

The Lady Buffs came close to getting a winner in the 74th minute when Kelley-Lusk put a ball across the face of goal but Ashley Silvestre's shot just missed the target. LCU had a golden opportunity in the 88th minute but Daniela Estrada made an acrobatic one-handed save to send the game into overtime. LCU would score the winner in the 109th minute on a free kick from Hailey Phipps.

WT recorded 27 shots, 13 of those on-target, with Diaz and Kelley-Lusk recording a game-high eight. Estrada finished with three saves in 108:29 minutes of action.

The Lady Buffs finish the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9, with a trip to Odessa to face UT Permian Basin. They are 18-0 all-time against the Falcons.
