DENTON, Texas – West Texas A&M saw their season come to an end on Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals to Texas Woman's at Pioneer Soccer Park. The Lady Buffs finish the season 10-8-0 while the Pioneers advance to face top-seeded Dallas Baptist on Friday.
The Lady Buffs had the better chances of the two teams in the first half with Hannah Kelley-Lusk forcing a tough save from TWU's Daniela Marin in the 9th minute. The whole sequence was set up by a through ball from Jessica Diaz but Marin was there to handle Kelley-Lusk's shot to the far post.
In the 25th minute, the Pioneers thought they had scored when Daniela Estrada was caught out of the goal but a Lady Buff defender was there to clear the shot away from goal and keep it scoreless. Khaline Jacob had her first chance of the game in the 33rd minute after a nice turn but her shot went wide left as the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
Kelley-Lusk would have another chance at opening the scoring in the 48th minute but her shot at the near post was handled by Marin. The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard in the 59th minute on a header from Lexi D'Abrosca before adding to the lead three minutes later on the junior shots from 20 yards out.
WT would push numbers forward over the final 25 minutes of the match but no avail as they dropped their fourth straight game to the Pioneers in Denton.
