JUSTIN, Texas – West Texas A&M equestrian opened the 2019-20 season this past weekend with a pair of dominant performances at the UNT/NCTC Western Show in Justin, Texas. The Lady Buffs won High Point Team on Saturday and Sunday with Rayleigh Rowell and Kendall Woellmer taking home High Point Rider honors.
During Saturday's competition, the Lady Buffs won high point team honors led by Rowell. The senior from Bartlesville, Okla. was named the High Point Rider after finishing first in open horsemanship and fourth in open reining. Kristan Hamilton (Level II Horsemanship), Emma Ferguson (Level I Horsemanship) and Macy French (rookie horsemanship) also picked up victories in their respective events.
It was Woellmer's turn to lead the Lady Buffs during Sunday show as the senior was named High Point Rider while the Lady Buffs were named High Point team. Woellmer won both the open reining and open horsemanship events while Rowell recorded a pair of Top-5 finishes to earn Reserve High Point Rider accolades. Hamilton won Level II Horsemanship for the second straight day while Bailey Summers finished first in Level I Horsemanship.
The Lady Buff Hunt Seat team will travel to Ardmore, Okla. on Oct. 19-20 to compete in their first hunt seat show hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
