LUBBOCK, Texas – The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs used strong defense and a double-double by freshman
Torrey Miller to sweep past the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps (25-20, 25-22, 29-27) in a Rivalry on the Range matchup on Friday night at the Rip Griffin Center during Lone Star Conference divisional action.
Miller registered 18 kills on 45 swings with six attack errors to hit .267 on the night to go along with 19 digs for her sixth double-double of the season followed by
Selena Batiste and
Lindsey Smith with eight kills each,
Gabby Emery paced the WT offense with 15 assists while
Chandler Vogel led the way in the back row with 19 digs in the win. The Lady Buffs hit .181 as a team with 45 kills on 155 swings with 17 attack errors to go along with 41 assists, four service aces, 83 digs and five total blocks on the night.
Ashley VanFleet led the way for the Lady Chaps with 13 kills on 47 attempts with nine attack errors to hit .085 on the night followed by Avery Moore and Hannah Thomas with nine kills each, Bradi Marshall led all players with 34 assists to go along with 13 digs for the double-double while Maddie Deguire led the way defensively with 23 digs on the night. LCU hit .105 on the night with 40 kills on 162 attempts with 23 attack errors to go along with 36 assists, two aces, 78 digs and three blocks in the loss.
The Lady Buffs wrap-up their weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon as they take on the #21 Belles of Angelo State in Lone Star Conference divisional action with first serve set for Noon at Stephens Arena inside of the Junell Center during Homecoming Weekend in San Angelo.
