Lady Buffs Head South for a Lone Star Conference Battle at Texas A&M-Kingsville

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs hit the road for Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they take on the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday night with first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Steinke Center in Kingsville.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas enter the weekend with an overall record of 10-7 with a 2-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a pair of LSC road losses to Angelo State and Tarleton before topping St. Mary's in five-sets in a neutral site win in Stephenville on Saturday afternoon.
 
TAMUK is guided by eighth year head coach Tanya Allen who has led the Javelinas to the Lone Star Conference Tournament every season at the helm in Kingsville.
 
The Javelinas are led offensively by Madison Brabham who has registered 183 kills (3.39/set) on 461 swings with 74 errors to hit .236 on the season, Emily North paces the Kingsville offense with 413 assists to average 6.35 per frame while Nicole Murff leads the way defensively with 334 digs (5.14/set).
 
TAMUK enters the weekend with 799 kills on 2,400 attempts to go along with 400 attack errors to hit .166 offensively as a team with 763 assists, 75 service aces, 1,104 digs and 141.5 total blocks to average 2.18 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
Friday night will mark the 64th overall meeting between the Lady Buffs and Javelinas dating back to the 1980 season. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series, 51-12 with WT taking two of three meetings from the Javelinas last season including a four-set win in the LSC Quarterfinals in Stephenville to end TAMUK's season. The Lady Buffs are 22-5 all-time at the Steinke Center with WT losing their last two trips to Kingsville.
 
LAST MEETING (NOVEMBER 16, 2017)
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M kept their season alive on as they started slow but stormed past the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville in four sets during the 2017 Lone Star Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Wisdom Gym South in Stephenville, Texas. The matchup would turn out to be a play-in game for the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament as the Lady Buffs made a run to the Regional Finals.

The Lady Buffs hit .216 as a team with 54 kills on 176 swings with 16 attack errors to go along with 47 assists, nine service aces, 79 digs and five total blocks in the win. Freshman Erin Clark led the way offensively with 14 kills on 38 swings with just three attack errors as the LSC Freshman of the Year hit .289 on the night followed by Selena Batiste with nine kills, Batiste paced the WT offensive with 24 assists and 16 digs for a double-double while Gabby Emery dished out 15 assists with 15 digs for a double-double of her own.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs capped off a weekend of Lone Star Conference action at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" with a sweep over the Western New Mexico Mustangs of Saturday afternoon in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 42 kills on 120 attempts with 10 errors to hit .267 with 40 assists, four service aces, 68 digs and nine blocks. WT was led offensively by Taylor Kress with a match-high 15 kills on 33 swings with just two attack errors to hit .394 followed by Destiny Jones with nine kills, Selena Batiste registered another double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs while Chandler Vogel led the way defensively with 16 digs on the afternoon.
 
Western New Mexico finished the match with 36 kills on 141 swings with 24 attack errors to hit .085 as a team with 36 assists, three aces, 60 digs and three total blocks in the loss. Erin Moss finished the match with nine kills followed by Maggie Roe and Caitlin Liebe with eight each, Madelynn Culp dishout out a team-high 17 assists while Gabi Lau led the way defensively with 18 digs to lead all players.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 472-77 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 402-101 (.802, 13th year) including a 266-81 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lone Star Conference will feature 11 volleyball playing institutions for the third straight season as each team will play a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams for 20 LSC contests.
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the weekend with 2,502 career assists to rank eighth all-time in program history as she sits 202 assists behind Wendy Ward (1994-95) for seventh place.
