SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M picked up their first Lone Star Conference win of the season on Saturday against Western New Mexico in Silver City, N.M. The Buffs scored a defensive touchdown for the second time this season in the 27-17 victory.

The Buffs took a 7-0 lead near the end of the first quarter on a 9-yard touchdown run by Duke Carter IV. It marked the third straight game the junior has rushed for a touchdown. They would add to their lead in the second with a Michael Shipley field goal followed by Tobias Harris second interception return for a touchdown on the season. The freshman jumped the route perfectly before taking the ball 55-yards for a pick-six.
In the second half, WT would add another field goal, this time from John Cummings, before Brock Williams recorded his first career touchdown to make it 27-10. Mitch Hood found the freshman tight end in the end zone to give the Buffs their largest lead of the game.

The Buffs head to Ellensburg, Wash. Next Saturday, Sept. 29, against #12 Central Washington. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT.
