2018: Completed 101-of-168 passes for 1,096 yards and five touchdowns with 3 interceptions in 7 starts during his sophomore season. Threw for over 200 yards twice including a season-high 264 at Texas A&M-Commerce two weeks after throwing for 238 yards in a win over Angelo State. Got his first start of the season at nationally-ranked Central Washington throwing for 2 touchdowns in WT’s upset victory over the Wildcats. Also rushed for a touchdown against ASU on Oct. 13.

2017: Played and started nine games under center. Went 85 of 180 with four touchdowns and nine interceptions. Passed for 1160 yards and a 128.9 average per game. Had a 98.69 efficiency. Led the LSC and ranked 27th nationally in passing yards per completion at 13.65. Threw for a season-high 272 yards at Tarleton State (9/23). Had a season-high two touchdown passes against Eastern New Mexico (9/30). Had 66 rushes for 34 yards and two touchdowns scoring 12 points for the season, while recording one tackle at Angelo State (11/4). Had a season-high 37 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown at Tarleton State. Had a season-high 60-yard pass against Texas A&M-Commerce (10/28).

2016: Redshirted.

High School: Graduated from Artesia High School in 2016 where he played quarterback for the Bulldogs under head coach Cooper Henderson. He led the Bulldogs to back-to-back 5-A State Championships in 2014 and 2015. He finished his career with 6,811 total yards, 75 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was twice named to the all-district and all-state teams. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Born on June 16, 1998. Son of Jeff and Jennifer Houghtaling. Has two siblings: Madison and Daityn. Plans on majoring in engineering at West Texas A&M.
