Lady Buffs Head to Florida for the Courtyard Marriott/Terrace Hotel Classic

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for the first time in the 2018 campaign this weekend as they head to the Sunshine State for the Courtyard Marriott/Terrace Hotel Volleyball Classic hosted by the University of Tampa and Florida Southern College.
 
CATAWBA
The Indians enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-1 as they topped UNC Pembroke, Francis Marion and Converse while falling to Emmanuel during the Coker/Francis Marion Classic in Hartsville, South Carolina.
 
Catawba is guided by 28th year head coach Ginger Hamric who has guided the Indians to four NCAA Division II Postseason Appearances including the Regional Finals in 2008.
 
#25 TAMPA
The Spartans have become one of the top programs in DII over the past few seasons as they enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-1 with wins over New Haven, Franklin Pierce, LIU-Post and Grand Valley State during the Raven First Serve Invitational in Rindge, New Hampshire.
 
Tampa is guided by 35th year head coach Chris Catanch who has led the Spartans to 25 Sunshine State Conference Titles along with 32 NCAA Appearances and 17 trips to the Elite Eight including a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships (2006, 2014).
 
WILMINGTON
Wilmington enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 as they topped Texas A&M International while falling to Grand Valley State, California (Pa.) and LIU Post during the Raven First Serve Invitational in Rindge, New Hampshire.
 
Kim Huggins-Habbert enters her 14th year at the helm of the Wildcats as she has led Wilmington to atleast 20 wins on seven different occasions and 11 appearances in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament since joining Division II in 2004.
 
#23 FLORIDA SOUTHERN
The reigning National Runner-Up Mocs of Florida Southern enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 with a win over Missouri Southern while falling to Truman State, Drury and then #22 Central Missouri during the Peggy Martin Challenge in Warrensburg, Missouri last weekend.
 
The Mocs are guided by first year head coach Chris Keen who took over the reins in January following five seasons as the program's top assistant. Keen was a part of FSC's 23-match win streak in 2017 that led them to the National Title Match.
 
AVCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (AUG. 27)
The Lady Buffs received votes for the second straight poll in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Monday afternoon by the association's offices in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 470-75 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 393-95 (.805, 13th year) including a 257-75 (.774) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville's Madison Brabham was named the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while Texas A&M-Commerce junior Shelley Chapron was tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Angelo State's Meghan Parker was honored as the league's Preseason Setter of the Year. The poll is voted on by the league's 11 head volleyball coaches, sports information directors and select media representatives from around the region.
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lone Star Conference will feature 11 volleyball playing institutions for the third straight season as each team will play a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams for 20 LSC contests.
