Quaid Ties Career-High in Victory over MSU Texas

CANYON, Texas – Ryan Quaid tied a career-high with 29 points, Qua Grant added 16 points and No. 8 West Texas A&M routed MSU Texas 93-70 on Saturday afternoon in front of 1,077 fans at the First United Bank Center to improve to 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

WT continued shoot the ball well in the friendly confines of the FUB going 7-of-15 (46.7%) from beyond in the first half as they lead 53-30 at the intermission. The Mustangs actually led 13-12 at 13:22 before WT went on a 16-2 run powered by eight points from Quad along with a monstrous dunk by James Pennington. They continued to find baskets wherever they wanted as the half moved along with the lead reaching as high as 25 with a little more than two minutes remaining on a pull up three from the left side.

The Buffs pushed the lead to 30 points with eight minutes gone in the second half, 65-35, before going cold from the field allowing MSU Texas to cut into the lead. The lead was down to 17 points with under five minutes remaining but WT responded with a quick 6-0 run with four of those coming from Joel Murray.

WT finished the game shooting 34-of-65 (52.3%) from the floor, 10-of-27 (37.0%) from three and 15-of-23 (65.2%) from the charity stripe while recording 38 rebounds, 18 assists, six steals and a block. Quaid recorded his third double-double of the season and 26th of his career while Grant added 16 points, four assists and three rebounds. Gach Gach had 11 points of his own going a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

UP NEXT
West Texas A&M return to non-conference play with a trip down Interstate 27 on Thursday, Dec. 7, for a game against Lubbock Christian. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center. The Buffs defeated the Chaps 82-70 on Nov. 15 in Canyon.
