Lady Buffs and Pioneers Set for a Lone Star Conference Quarterfinal Showdown

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs open up the 2018 postseason on Thursday night as they take on fifth seeded Texas Woman's in the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Championship in Stephenville, Texas.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers enter the week with an overall record of 18-12 with a mark of 10-10 in league play to finish fifth in the LSC standings.
 
TWU is guided by second year head coach Jeff Huebner who came to Denton from Middle Tennessee State where he served as the Interim Head Coach.
 
The Pioneers are led offensively by Courtney Noel who has registered 327 kills (2.73/set) on 808 swings with 97 errors to hit .285 on the season, Kate Ranes paces the TWU offense with 1,292 assists to average 10.77 per frame while Bailey French leads the way defensively with 663 digs (5.53/set).
 
TWU enters the weekend with 1,564 kills on 4,741 attempts to go along with 706 attack errors to hit .181 offensively as a team with 1,458 assists, 143 service aces, 2,153 digs and 197.0 total blocks to average 1.50 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Lady Buffs and Pioneers will battle for the 55th overall time on the volleyball court on Thursday in a series dating back to the 1980 campaign. WT leads the series 47-7 with the Lady Buffs claiming the last five meetings including both this season.
 
The Lady Buffs are 5-0 all-time against the Pioneers in postseason matchups with four of those coming in the Lone Star Conference Championship. The last postseason meeting between the two happened on November 14, 2008 in Canyon during the LSC Semifinals as the Lady Buffs swept past the Pioneers behind 13 kills from junior Laura Prinsen while Katie Rickwartz dished out 38 assists in the victory.
 
LAST MEETING
WT fought back from a 2-1 deficit to top the visiting Pioneers of Texas Woman's in Lone Star Conference action in a five set thriller at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 56 kills on 210 attempts with 29 errors to hit .129 on the night with 53 assists, five service aces, 118 digs and 12 blocks. WT was led offensively by Sydnee Johnson with 12 kills, Selena Batiste registered her eighth career triple-double with 10 kills, 28 assists and 23 digs. Gabby Emery tallied a double-double with 20 assists and 21 digs while Chandler Vogel led all players with 38 digs in the win.
 
Texas Woman's finished the match with 57 kills on 219 swings with 33 attack errors to hit .110 as a team with 54 assists, four aces, 111 digs and nine blocks. Courntey Noel led all players with 15 kills on 47 swings with six attack errors to hit .191 on the night, Kate Ranes dished out a match-high 47 assists while Bailey French tallied 35 digs in the loss.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Lady Buffs make their 24th overall and 14th consecutive appearance in the LSC Championship as they hold an overall record of 44-8 (.846) in the event. WT has made 16 appearances in the Championship Match with a 15-1 overall record as the Lady Buffs will be going for their 16th LSC Tournament Championship.
 
ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Four Lady Buffs were honored for their efforts on the court as they were named All-Lone Star Conference selections announced during the annual LSC Volleyball Postseason Awards Banquet in Stephenville, Texas on Wednesday night. WT sophomore Chandler Vogel was named the 2018 Lone Star Conference Libero of the Year.
 
Vogel was joined on the Second Team by Selena Batiste and Destiny Jones while Lindsey Smith earned Honorable Mention accolades for the Lady Buffs. Smith was also honored for her efforts in the classroom as the junior Psychology major was named to the LSC All-Academic Team. It marks the fourth time that a Lady Buff has earned Libero of the Year honors as Vogel joins Sara Contreras (2006, 2008) and Brittani Bell (2005).
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 477-79 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 411-107 (.760, 13th year) including a 275-87 (.793) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the LSC Championship with 2,863 career assists to rank sixth all-time in program history as she sits 152 assists behind Lacy Hayes (3,015 / 2011-12) for fifth place.
 
1,000 CAREER DIGS
WT sophomore libero Chandler Vogel became the newest member of the 1,000 Career Dig Club on Tuesday, October 16th against Eastern New Mexico at The Box in Canyon. The Hereford native reached the plateau during her 59th career match as a Lady Buff.
