Five Buffs Score in Double Figures as #4 West Texas A&M Dominates Science & Arts (Okla.)

CANYON, Texas – Gach Gach was one of five Buffs in double figures as #4 West Texas A&M dominated from start-to-finish in their 94-49 victory over Science & Arts (Okla.) at the First United Bank Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, WT improved to 4-0 all-time against the Drovers.

WT struggled from the field in the opening minutes as it was a three-point game, 8-5 with less than 16 minutes remaining before going on a 13-0 run. Qua Grant made 1-of-2 free throws followed by a Joel Murray layup as a result of a steal. Gach hit his second three of the first half. Murray would connect from deep on the next possession to take the lead to double digits, 17-7, before Gach made another one from deep on the next time down the court.

The Drovers would score their final basket for the next 11 minutes on a three from Greydon Steinmetz at 11:38 before WT went on another 19-1 run over the next six minutes to make it 40-12. Murray made a layup before a step back three from Brandon Hall followed by Eric Mosley's first three of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Derrick Geddis made a layup on a nice run out with Drew Evans going 1-of-2 from the free throw line followed by Hall's second long ball of the game. Sterling White would get in on the scoring act with a three of his own with Geddis scoring on a layup at 5:29.

The Buffs continued to pour it on with Ryan Quaid throwing down a dunk on an offensive rebound followed by a deep three from Jordan Collins. USAO would convert two free throws before James Pennington go on the board for the first time of the game with a free throw. Gach would continue his strong start with a jumper at 2:44 to make it 48-15 followed by a Mosley layup. Collins would score the final points of the half for the Buffs as they lead 52-19 after twenty minutes of action.

Qua Grant opened the scoring for the Buffs in the second half with an old-fashioned three-point play followed by a pair of free throws from Murray. Following a Drover basket, Gach connected on yet another three to make it a 33-point game, 60-27. Hall got the steal and dunk followed up with four straight points from USAO to cut the lead to 35 followed by another fast break layup form Murray on a steal from Collins.

Collins would hit another three, this time from the left, with 12:55 remaining in the contest followed by four straight points from the Rovers before Gedddis hit a jumper near the baseline. Following another jumper from ASAO, the Buffs went on a 5-0 run initiated by a pair of free throws from Evans. White was good from three point range for the second time of the game to give him six on the day. Evans would then proceed to six straight points for WT to make it 85-47 with six minutes remaining in the game.

The Drovers had not answer for WT over the final five minutes of the game as Evans would get another layup followed up by a monstrous dunk by Geddis over a Drover defender. Marshal Johnson would get his name on the score sheet with a put back at 1:57 to finish the scoring for WT.

WT finished the game 33-of-71 (46.5%) from the floor and 14-of-40 (35.0%) from beyond the arc and 14-of-20 (70.0%) from the free throw line to go along with 47 rebounds, 16 assists, five stelas and two blocks. Gach reached double figures for the fourth time with 15 points going 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Geddis had a career-high 11 points to go along with seven rebounds while Evans filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Collins was the fourth and final Buff in double figures with 11 of his own after going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The Buffs will host Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, Nov. 23, at the First United Bank Center as part of the WT Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic.
