Lady Buffs Host Texas Woman’s and #21 Texas A&M-Commerce on Senior Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs end the regular season inside of the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" this weekend as they host Texas Woman's on Senior Night followed by a Saturday afternoon battle with #21 Texas A&M-Commerce in Canyon.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers enter the week with an overall record of 17-11 with a 9-9 mark in league action following sweeps of UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico last weekend.
 
TWU is guided by second year head coach Jeff Huebner who came to Denton from Middle Tennessee State where he served as the Interim Head Coach.
 
The Pioneers are led offensively by Maggie Pyles who has registered 312 kills (2.86/set) on 959 swings with 116 errors to hit .204 on the season, Kate Ranes paces the TWU offense with 1,203 assists to average 10.94 per frame while Bailey French leads the way defensively with 597 digs (5.43/set).
 
TWU enters the weekend with 1,454 kills on 4,339 attempts to go along with 531 attack errors to hit .190 offensively as a team with 1,357 assists, 133 service aces, 1,966 digs and 179.0 total blocks to average 1.60 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Lady Buffs and Pioneers will battle for the 54th overall time on the volleyball court on Friday dating back to the 1980 campaign. WT leads the series 46-7, the Pioneers are 1-24 all-time in Canyon.
 
LAST MEETING
The Lady Buffs battled thru another five-set Lone Star Conference matchup as they came out on the winning end in Denton against Texas Woman's at Kitty Magee Arena.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 50 kills on 183 attempts with 15 errors to hit .191 with 47 assists, eight service aces, 79 digs and seven blocks. WT was led offensively by Sydnee Johnson and Lindsey Smith with 11 kills each, Selena Batiste dished out 25 assists while Chandler Vogel led the way defensively with 23 digs in the win.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The #21 Lions enter the week with an overall record of 23-5 with a 15-3 mark in league action following sweeps of Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin last weekend.
 
TAMUC is guided by ninth year head coach Craig Case who has become the longest tenured coach in program history with 153 career wins to rank second in school history.
 
The Lions are led offensively by Jaslyn Wacker who has registered 270 kills (2.45/set) on 681 swings with 110 errors to hit .235 on the season, Rylie Fuentes paces the Commerce offense with 578 assists to average 5.45 per frame while Savannah Rutledge leads the way defensively with 468 digs (4.22/set).
 
TAMUC enters the weekend with 1,563 kills on 3,991 attempts to go along with 646 attack errors to hit .230 offensively as a team with 1,475 assists, 143 service aces, 1,754 digs and 225.5 total blocks to average 2.00 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
Saturday will mark the 56th overall meeting between the Lady Buffs and Lions dating back to the 1981 season as WT holds a 40-15 advantage while the Lions have claimed the last three meetings. The Lions are 4-21 all-time at The Box in Canyon.
 
LAST MEETING
WT started fast as they took the opening two sets in a Top-25 Lone Star Conference road matchup before falling in five sets to the #21 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions at the TAMUC Fieldhouse.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 56 kills on 198 attempts with 14 errors to hit .212 with 52 assists, five service aces, 82 digs and 13 blocks. WT was led offensively by Taylor Kress with 14 kills on 44 swings with just two attack errors to hit .273 on the night followed by Sydnee Johnson with 12 kills, Selena Batiste and Gabby Emery dished out 21 assists each while Chandler Vogel led with way with 24 digs on the night.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 476-78 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 412-104 (.802, 13th year) including a 276-84 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the weekend with 2,809 career assists to rank sixth all-time in program history as she sits 206 assists behind Lacy Hayes (3,015 / 2011-12) for fifth place.
 
1,000 CAREER DIGS
WT sophomore libero Chandler Vogel became the newest member of the 1,000 Career Dig Club on Tuesday, October 16th against Eastern New Mexico at The Box in Canyon. The Hereford native reached the plateau during her 59th career match as a Lady Buff.
