Lady Buffs Host St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Kingsville at The Box

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs return to the WTAMU Fieldhouse this weekend as they host St. Mary's and Texas A&M-Kingsville in huge South Central Regional matchups at The Box.
 
ST. MARY'S
The Rattlers enter the weekend with an overall record of 13-11 with a 7-2 mark in Heartland Conference play following a sweep of Texas A&M International on Tuesday night in Laredo to run St. Mary's win streak to three matches.
 
St. Mary's is guided by second year head coach Stephanie Armstrong who led the Rattlers to the Heartland Conference Tournament Title and the South Central Regional Tournament during her first season at the helm in 2017.
 
The Rattlers are led offensively by Channing Hankins who has registered 245 kills (2.95/set) on 744 swings with 110 errors to hit .181 on the season, Bree Perry paces the StMU offense with 586 assists to average 7.06 per frame while Monica Ramon leads the way defensively with 309 digs (4.29/set).
 
St. Mary's enters the weekend with 1,094 kills on 3,299 attempts to go along with 508 attack errors to hit .178 offensively as a team with 1,043 assists, 120 service aces, 1,497 digs and 146.0 total blocks to average 1.7 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Rattlers, 17-2 in a series dating back to the 1999 season. WT has claimed the last 10 meetings between the two teams including a straight-set win during their last meeting on September 2nd of last year during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. St. Mary's is 0-9 all-time at The Box in Canyon.
 
THE LAST MEETING
The Lady Buffs hit .386 as a team with 11 service aces to roll past the Rattlers of St. Mary's during the finale of the 2017 BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon. Freshman outside Erin Clark was named to the All-Tournament Team while sophomore Selena Batiste picked up MVP honors.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas enter the weekend with an overall record of 15-12 with a 7-9 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a three-set loss to #11 Tarleton on Tuesday night in Kingsvile.
 
TAMUK is guided by eighth year head coach Tanya Allen who has led the Javelinas to the Lone Star Conference Tournament every season at the helm in Kingsville.
 
The Javelinas are led offensively by Madison Brabham who has registered 355 kills (3.74/set) on 835 swings with 129 errors to hit .271 on the season, Emily North paces the Kingsville offense with 695 assists to average 6.56 per frame while Nicole Murff leads the way defensively with 511 digs (4.96/set).
 
TAMUK enters the weekend with 1,355 kills on 3,933 attempts to go along with 632 attack errors to hit .184 offensively as a team with 1,291 assists, 115 service aces, 1,769 digs and 213.0 total blocks to average 2.0 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
Saturday afternoon will mark the 65th overall meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Javelinas dating back to the 1980 campaign. WT leads the all-time series, 52-12 with the Lady Buffs taking the first meeting of the 2018 season back on September 28th in a five-set thriller in Kingsville. The Javelinas are 5-27 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse in Canyon.
 
LAST MEETING
The Lady Buffs finished the night on a 10-5 run as they claimed a thrilling five-set Lone Star Conference road victory at Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Steinke Center.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 57 kills on 192 attempts with 24 errors to hit .172 with 55 assists, four service aces, 105 digs and seven blocks. WT was led offensively by Lindsey Smith with a 15 kills on 33 swings with no attack errors to hit .455 followed by Michaela Montgomery and Taylor Kress with 11 kills each, Selena Batiste registered another double-double with 32 assists and 24 digs.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 475-77 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 411-102 (.802, 13th year) including a 275-82 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the weekend with 2,736 career assists to rank seventh all-time in program history as she sits 56 assists behind Erin Houlihan (2,792 / 2004-05) for sixth place.
 
1,000 CAREER DIGS
WT sophomore libero Chandler Vogel became the newest member of the 1,000 Career Dig Club on Tuesday, October 16th against Eastern New Mexico at The Box in Canyon. The Hereford native reached the plateau during her 59th career match as a Lady Buff.
