Lady Buffs Head to San Angelo and Stephenville for LSC Action This Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs hit the road for a pair of big Lone Star Conference matches this weekend as they take on the Belles of Angelo State on Friday night followed by a showdown with #13 Tarleton on Saturday afternoon in Stephenville.
 
ANGELO STATE
The Belles enter the weekend with an overall mark of 17-7 with a 10-4 mark in LSC action following a three-set loss to #13 Tarleton on Wednesday night in San Angelo for ASU's first home loss of the season.
 
Chuck Waddington is in his 11th year at the helm of the ASU Volleyball Program, leading the Belles to seven straight NCAA Tournaments including the 2016 Elite Eight.
 
ASU is led offensively by Audrey Fragniere who has registered 239 kills (2.81/set) on 680 attempts with 105 errors to hit .197 on the season, Meghan Parker has dished out a team-high 864 assists to average 9.82 per frame while Sundara Chinn has tallied a team-high 252 digs for an average of 2.96 per set.
 
THE SERIES VS. ANGELO STATE
Friday night will mark the 79th meeting between the two teams dating back to 1980. WT leads the all-time series, 57-21 with the Belles taking the first meeting of 2018 back on September 15th in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are 21-10 all-time in San Angelo.
 
LAST MEETING
West Texas A&M couldn't find a rhythm offensively for the second straight day as the Lady Buffs fell to the rival Belles of Angelo State in four sets during Lone Star Conference action at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 47 kills on 147 attempts with 20 errors to hit .184 with 45 assists, three service aces, 70 digs and four blocks. WT was led offensively by Taylor Kress with 14 kills on 47 swings with four errors to hit .213 on the afternoon followed by Michaela Montgomery with 10 kills, Selena Batiste finished the match with 28 assists and 14 digs for a double-double while Chandler Vogel led the Lady Buffs with 24 digs.
TARLETON
The #13 TexAnns enter the weekend with an overall record of 21-2 with a perfect 13-0 mark in Lone Star Confernce action following a sweep of Angelo State in San Angelo on Wednesday night to run their win streak to 18 matches.
 
Tarleton is guided by 14th year head coach Mary Schindler who led TSU to the 2017 Lone Star Conference Regular Season and Tournament Titles before falling in the opening round of the South Central Regional Tournament to WT.
 
The TexAnns are led offensively by Adriana Darthuy who has registered 239 kills (2.95/set) on 695 swings with 78 errors to hit .232 on the season, Blanca Izquierdo paces the TSU offense with 472 assists to average 5.38 per frame while Adrianna Knutson leads the way defensively with 367 digs (4.53/set).
 
THE SERIES VS. TARLETON
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the TexAnns, 44-10 in a series dating back to the 1993 season. The two teams split their four meetings last season while the TexAnns took the first meeting of 2018 back on September 14th in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are 19-5 all-time in Stephenville.
 
LAST MEETING
The Lady Buffs started fast but struggled offensively in the final three sets to fall to the then #20 Tarleton Texans in four sets during Lone Star Conference action at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 52 kills on 158 attempts with 26 errors to hit .165 with 47 assists, three service aces, 77 digs and three blocks. Taylor Kress led the way offensively with 12 kills followed by Selena Batiste with her third triple-double of the season as the junior tallied 11 kills, 27 assists and 11 digs in the loss, Chandler Vogel was solid in the back-row with 25 digs followed by Batiste and Kress with 11 each.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 475-77 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 408-102 (.802, 13th year) including a 272-82 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the week with 2,664 career assists to rank eighth all-time in program history as she sits 40 assists behind Wendy Ward (1994-95) for seventh place.
 
1,000 CAREER DIGS
WT sophomore libero Chandler Vogel became the newest member of the 1,000 Career Dig Club on Tuesday, October 16th against Eastern New Mexico at The Box in Canyon. The Hereford native reached the plateau during her 59th career match as a Lady Buff.
