Lady Buffs Host MSU Texas and Cameron This Weekend at The Box

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of the WTAMU Fieldhouse this weekend as they host MSU Texas and Cameron in Lone Star Conference action starting on Friday night at 6 p.m. against the rival Mustangs at The Box in a Highway 287 Challenge Cup showdown.
 
MSU TEXAS
The Mustangs enter the weekend with an overall mark of 3-10 including a 1-10 LSC record following a three-set loss to #22 Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday night in Wichita Falls.
 
MSU is guided by first year head coach Valerie Armstrong who was named the ninth head coach in program history back on May 12th. Armstrong served as the head coach at Vernon College from 2009-2012 followed by a stint as an assistant at Alabama State and Glenn Kiriyama at Binghamton.
 
MSU Texas is led offensively by Erin Richburg who has registered 160 kills (2.46/set) on 589 attempts with 98 errors to hit .105 on the season, Sarah Glawe has dished out a team-high 447 assists to average 6.88 per frame while Richburg has tallied a team-high 171 digs for an average of 2.63 per set.
 
THE SERIES VS. MSU TEXAS
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Mustangs, 36-1 in a series dating back to 1980. WT claimed the first 35 meetings in the series before MSU picked up their first ever win against the Lady Buffs on October 20th of last year. The Mustangs are 0-16 all-time at The Box in Canyon.
 
LAST MEETING (SEPTEMBER 8, 2018)
West Texas A&M head volleyball coach Jason Skoch reached the 400 wins plateau as the Lady Buffs swept past the rival Mustangs of MSU Texas at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 38 kills on 109 attempts with 20 errors to hit .165 with 38 assists, six service aces, 57 digs and three blocks. Batiste led the Lady Buffs with nine kills to go along with 18 assists and 12 digs for the double-double, Gabby Emery dished out 10 assists for WT while Megan Keasler led the way defensively with 12 digs.
 
CAMERON
The Aggies enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-19 including an 0-11 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a four-set loss to Texas Woman's on Tuesday night in Lawton to run the Cameron losing streak to 12 matches.
 
Cameron is guided by second year head coach Tatiana Booth who came to Lawton following three seasons as the head coach at Vernon College, compiling a record of 76-40. Booth was a standout student-athlete at East Central University where she was a two-time All-Great American Conference selection.
 
The Aggies are led offensively by Paige Dixon who has registered 210 kills (2.47/set) on 674 swings with 87 errors to hit .182 on the season, Katherin Manning paces the CU offense with 445 assists to average 5.24 per frame while Brittnee Altic leads the way defensively with 420 digs (4.94/set).
 
THE SERIES VS. CAMERON
Saturday afternoon will mark the 55th overall meeting between the Lady Buffs and Aggies in a series dating back to the 1988 season. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series, 51-3 with WT claiming the last five meetings. The Aggies are 0-25 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.
 
LAST MEETING (SEPTEMBER 7, 2018)
West Texas A&M junior Selena Batiste registered her third career triple-double as the Lady Buffs opened up the Lone Star Conference schedule with a four-set win over the Cameron Aggies in Lawton, Oklahoma at Aggie Gym.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 53 kills on 179 attempts with 23 errors to hit .201 on the night with 55 assists, six service aces, 91 digs and six blocks. Batiste led the Lady Buffs with 12 kills to go along with 27 assists and 17 digs for her second triple-double of the season followed by Taylor Kress with 11 kills and Lindsey Smith with 10, sophomore Chandler Vogel led the Lady Buffs with 25 digs in the win.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 472-77 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 405-102 (.802, 13th year) including a 269-82 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lone Star Conference will feature 11 volleyball playing institutions for the third straight season as each team will play a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams for 20 LSC contests.
 
2,500 ASSIST CLUB
West Texas A&M junior setter Selena Batiste continues to make her way up the program's all-time assists leaderboard as the Portland, Oregon native joined the 2,500 Assist Club on Saturday, September 22nd in a sweep of Western New Mexico in Canyon. Batiste enters the week with 2,609 career assists to rank eighth all-time in program history as she sits 95 assists behind Wendy Ward (1994-95) for seventh place.
