  • The Lead: The No. 11 West Texas A&M men's basketball team came out of fire and blitzed visiting Cameron in the first half for a 93-59 win extending WT's home winning streak to 29-games dating back to the 2015-16 season.  The 59 points allowed by WT was the fewest of the season and all 11 players who played for WT scored. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • WT came out firing on all cylinders as it opened the game scoring the first nine points capped with a triple from junior Gach Gach with 16:23 left in the first half.
  • Senior David Chavlovich buried a triple for a 12-3 lead moments later.
  • A layup from freshman Gaige Prim started a 12-0 run capped with a triple from sophomore Jordan Collins, who made his second-straight start for a 29-7 lead with 10:12 left in the half.
  • Two free throws by senior Jordan Evans and an emphatic dunk from junior Ryan Quaid pushed the lead to 25 at 42-17 with 4:31 left.
  • Gach hit his third triple of the game for a 48-21 lead with 2:25 left and Evans buried a triple for a half-high 30-point advantage at 51-21 with 1:13 remaining.
  • Two free throws from Cameron cut the deficit to 28 at 51-23 to end the half.
  • Cameron came out with a different mindset as the Aggies cut the deficit to 25 on a layup from Chris Royal for a 56-31 lead with 17:11 left.
  • From there, the Buffs pushed the lead over 30 points.
  • With 7:59 left both teams had scored 24 points in the second stanza and, from that point, the Buffs outscored Cameron 18-12 the rest of the way for the 93-59 win.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • The 51 points marked the fourth time this season WT has opened a game with 50 or more points in the first half.
  • The 28-point margin at half ties the season-high as the Buffs led by 28 at half versus Southwestern Christian (11/24/17) with a 61-33 lead.
  • The Buffs shot 18 of 38 from the field for the half for 47.4 percent, while going 8 of 21 from beyond the arc and 7 of 8 from the line.
  • The WT "D" completely stymied Cameron as the Aggies were just 8 of 30 from the field (.267) and 3 of 11 from beyond the arc, while making all of their four free throws.
  • Evans and Gach each had 13 points to lead the Buffs, while Prim had another strong outing off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds in the half.
  • WT held a 25-18 lead in rebounding, while leading 23-8 in points in the paint and 7-0 in fast break points with a number of easy looks on the break.
  • No Aggie had more than five points as Tyler Williams was 2 of 5 from the field with a triple.Leading scorer JV Long had just four points in the half on 2 of 4 from the field.
  • WT forced 11 turnovers in the first half and committed just six.
  • All 11 players who played for WT scored in the contest as WT led by as many as 40 in the game winning the 29th-straight home game dating back to 2015-16.
  • WT shot 45 percent for the game on 27 of 60, while going 14 of 37 from beyond the arc (.378) and 25 of 33 from the line (.758).
  • The Buffs outrebounded Cameron 51-32 for the largest margin of the season at 19.
  • Evans had a game-high 23 points, while Gach finished with 16 and Prim added 17 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, while Quaid narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebound.
  • The Buff "D" held Cameron to 29.2 percent from the field on 19 of 65 marking the lowest field goal percentage allowed this season for WT.The Aggies were 5 of 20 from beyond the arc and went 16 of 17 from the line.
  • Williams was the lone Cameron player in double figures with 11 points.
  • WT improved to 34-15 all-time against Cameron as the previous five meetings the final margin all were under ten points was the Buffs' largest margin of victory over Cameron since a 97-64 win on Feb. 13, 1992 in Canyon.
