- The Lead: Behind 21 points and a career-high 21 rebounds from West Texas A&M junior Ryan Quaid, the No. 8-ranked Buffs earned a hard-fought 81-77 victory at Angelo State Thursday evening in Lone Star Conference play. Quaid finished eight of 15 from the field and five of six from the line for 21 points, along with 21 rebounds, including 14 on the defensive end and led four Buffs in double figures.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- The Buffs jumped out to a 10-6 lead through the first four minutes courtesy of two triples from junior Gach Gach, as he is coming off a big game against Cameron last weekend with 16 points.
- Off a great offensive rebound from senior Jordan Evans, Gach buried his third triple of the early going for a 20-12 lead with just under 12 minutes left in the first half as he had nine early.
- Back-to-back triples from Evans pushed the WT lead to 12 at 28-16 with 8:38 left, followed by a triple from sophomore Jordan Collins for a 31-16 lead with a 9-0 run with 8:18 left in the first half and a timeout by the Rams.
- ASU responded with a 7-0 run, including an "and one" cutting the WT lead to 31-23 with 6:52 left in the first half.
- Daron Mims earned the "and one" for a 38-31 score in favor of the Buffs with 3:55 left as ASU used a 15-7 run to get back in the game from the 31-16 deficit with 8:18 left in the half.
- ASU ended a 2:10 scoring drought with one free throw for a 40-32 deficit with 1:45 left as the Rams were just 5 of 13 from the line in the first half to that point.
- Collins ended a 4:41 drought for the Buffs and a 42-34 lead with less than minute left in the half.
- WT led 44-40 at half on what looked like a foul on a triple from Gach, but turned into a fast break layup for Mims at the buzzer.
- The Buffs opened the second half with a 12-7 spurt and led 56-47 through the first media timeout as Evans scored eight points in the early going for 17 for the game with 15:46 left courtesy of five triples.
- A dunk from junior Ryan Quaid gave him his ninth double-double of the season and the first WT field goal in over four minutes for a 58-49 lead with just under 12 minutes left.
- A triple from Kiair Crouch pulled ASU within six at 60-54, as it was his third triple and the only Ram who had hit a triple to that point with just over nine minutes left.
- Kirksey scored off an offensive rebound to pull ASU within two, but a bucket in transition from Gach pushed the lead back to four at 62-58.
- Will Adler became the second Ram with a triple pulling ASU within one at 62-61 with 7:38 left.
- A layup in transition following a block for Ran Tut put ASU up for the first time since the early going, but Chavlovich had a layup at the other end.
- The Rams then hit just their fifth triple of the game, first by Tut, for a 68-66 lead with just over four minutes left and Mims scored inside for a 70-68 ASU leads with 3:48 left.The Buffs made just 1 of their last eight field goals heading into the final media timeout.
- Tut broke a 70-70 score with a bucket inside, but Quaid was fouled at the other end with 2:37 left as he made one of two free throws for 19 points.
- Tut scored again at the other end for a 74-71 lead as the Buffs had missed their last nine field goals and no field goals over the last 2:48.
- Chavlovich scored inside to tie the game at 74 with 90 seconds left ending the field goal drought of over three minutes.
- Quaid put WT up with just over a minute left with a bucket inside, following a missed shot from ASU and Quaid's career-high 21st rebound, Chavlovich hit his first triple of the game for a 79-75 score and 51 seconds left.He was just 4 of 19 from the field and 0 of 11 from beyond the arc to that point.
- Adler missed a triple with 35 seconds left and Prim came up with his ninth rebound of the game.Following a timeout by WT, ASU got a turnover and score for a two-point margin with 27.2 seconds left.
- Chavlovich was fouled with 14.6 seconds left as he made one of the free throws and then ASU tried to ice him with a timeout to no avail as he nailed both for an 81-77 score.
- A triple by ASU caromed off the rim as the Buffs got the rebound for the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- For the half the Buffs shot 42.4 percent on 14 of 33 from the field, while going 7 of 16 from beyond the arc and 9 of 12 from the line.Gach and Evans each had nine points on three triples a-piece to lead the team.
- ASU shot 50 percent on 15 of 30 from the field, but was just 1 of 7 from beyond the arc and 9 of 17 from the line as the Buffs were called for 14 fouls in the first half.James Kirksey had nine points to lead the Rams.
- Since the 31-16 WT lead in the first half, ASU closed the half on a 24-13 run to cut the margin to four to end the half.
- For the game, the Buffs shot 36.6 percent on 26 of 71 from the floor, marking a season-low from the field, but countered with 10 of 35 from beyond the arc and 19 of 25 from the line with a season-high 55 rebounds, including a season-high 20 on the offensive end and 35 on the defensive side.
- ASU went 29 of 69 from the field for 42 percent and was 5 of 17 from beyond the arc, while really struggling from the line at 14 of 27 for 51.9 percent.The Rams had 42 rebounds in the game, but no answer for Quaid inside both on the offensive and defensive end.
- Chavlovich finished with a quiet 18 points on 5 of 20 from the field and 7 of 9 from the line with seven assists and the key triple to put WT up four late.
- Evans had 17 points on five triples and two free throws, while Gach had 11 points with three triples.
- The Rams were led by 17 points from Kirksey on 8 of 16 from the field, but went 1 of 6 from the line.Crouch added 14 points and 12 from Mims off the bench.
