  • The Lead: A tough shooting night for the No. 7 West Texas A&M men's basketball team and an upset-minded Tarleton State squad snapped the Buffs' 29-game home winning streak, 82-74, Thursday Evening at the First United Bank Center. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • Tarleton State came out scoring the first four points of the game through the first minute, but the Buffs took the lead on a deep triple from junior Gach Gach 8-7 with 16:05 left in the first half.
  • The Texans took a 10-8 lead on a pair of charity tosses, but the Buffs came roaring back with a 11-0 run for a 19-10 lead with 11:24 left highlighted by a triple from senior Jordan Evans, free throws from junior Ryan Quaid and a layup inside from Quaid.
  • The pesky Texans trimmed the lead to five at 19-14, but a triple from sophomore Drew Evans pushed the lead back to eight and a jumper from senior David Chavlovich built the lead to ten at 24-14.
  • Following a jumper from Jaraan Lands, J. Evans buried his second triple of the half for an 11-point advantage at 27-16 with 6:51 left.
  • Later, a triple from sophomore Jordan Collins pushed the lead back to 11 at 32-22, but the Texans used a triple from Corinthian Ramsey and Deshawn Riddick to cut the deficit five at 35-30 with 2:56 left and got as close as two with two free throws from Riddick with six seconds left for 38-36 WT lead.
  • Since the 4:06 mark, TSU outscored WT 11-3 during the remainder of the half.
  • WT opened the second half with a 6-0 run through the first four minutes as TSU went scoreless for over five minutes dating back to the final minute of the first half.
  • Riddick buried a triple cutting the deficit to five at 44-39 with 14:56 left, followed by a triple from Preston Enloe had just two points in the first half and finished with 16 for the game with four triples in the second half.
  • Riddick then hit another triple for TSU's first lead since the first half for a 45-44 score with 12:25 left.
  • Quaid scored inside for a 46-45 lead for the Buffs with 11:15 left, but TSU came right back with another triple from Enloe.
  • A layup from Chavlovich tied the game at 57 with 6:40 left, but Riddick answered with a triple putting TSU up for good at 60-57 with six minutes left.
  • WT cut the deficit to two at 72-70 with 2:10 left on a triple from Evans, but Enloe answered again second later for a 75-70 lead.
  • The Texans pushed the lead to eight with 42 seconds left and settled for an eight-point win.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • WT shot 42.4 percent in the half on 14 of 33, while going 8 of 18 from beyond the arc (.444) and went to the line just twice, making both.
  • TSU shot a blazing 55.6 percent on 15 of 27 from the field and was 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, while going 3-3 from the line.
  • WT held an 18-13 lead in rebounding, while there were a combined 13 fouls called in the half.
  • Gach paced the Buffs with nine points on three triples, while Ramsey had 11 points to lead all scorers and Lands had nine points and six rebounds for the Texans.
  • WT struggled shooting going 27 of 73 from the field for 37 percent, while going 10 of 37 from beyond the arc and went a perfect 10 of 10 from the line.
  • The Buffs outrebounded TSU 40-33 as five Buffs were in double figures.
  • Gach tallied his first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Evans paced the team with 12 points on four triples.
  • TSU shot a blistering 57.4 percent for the game on 31 of 54 from the field and were 12 of 22 from beyond the arc, while going 8 of 13 from the line.
  • Five Texans were in double figures led by a game-high 23 points from Riddick who buried six triples.Josh Hawley added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Texans scored 46 points in the second half and went 9 of 15 from beyond the arc in the second half, while WT was just 2 of 19 from beyond the arc in the second stanza.
  • The loss snapped WT's 29-game home winning streak dating back to 2015-16, which was the fifth-longest in the nation heading into tonight's game.
