  • The Lead: Five, second half goals by the West Texas A&M men's soccer team sparked the Buffs to a thrilling 5-2, come-from-behind victory at Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday afternoon.  Junior Callum Challinor scored two goals, including the game winner.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • CSU-Pueblo jumped on the board first with a goal in the 38th minute by Joe McKee off an assist from Jose Batista as the game remained 1-0 at halftime.
 
  • WT senior Evan Bozman tied the game at the 57:03 mark in the second half, but just over one minute later CSUP came right back with a score from Cezar Zamudio for a 2-1 lead.
 
  • The Buffs were awarded a penalty kick as junior Ivan Ulloa scored his first goal of the season on the PK for a 2-2 score at the 63:33 mark for the first of four-straight unanswered goals by the Buffs.
 
  • Challinor scored the game winner at the 68:09 mark and redshirt freshman Cal Bryan scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from junior Julio Vargas seven minutes later.Challinor put the finishing touches on the win with his second goal at the 83:00 mark for a 5-2 lead.
 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Alexander Vencel had five saves in the game for the Buffs between the posts and improved to 2-0 on the year.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • WT, once again, outshot the opposition, 18-13 and 10-7 in shots on goal.Challinor had four shots with three on frame and two scores.In all, three different Buffs had four shots each.
 
  • The Buffs recorded six corner kicks in the game for 25 in the first two contests as WT had 19 corners Friday in the 3-0 win at Colorado Christian.
 
  • All eight goals by the Buffs have come in the second half this season.The five goals were the most for the Buffs since posting a 5-0 shutout of Eastern New Mexico in the Heartland Conference Tournament last November.
 
  • The Buffs improved to 14-1-1 all-time against CSU-Pueblo and 5-1-1 in games in Pueblo.WT extended its streak winning four of the last five in the series.
 
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • WT has a week off before it plays at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., a week from today on Sept. 10.
  • Following that game, the Buffs open the 2017 home season Sept. 14 with a huge matchup at The Pitch against arch-rival Midwestern State.
