- The Lead: West Texas A&M scored the first goal and the last goal as the Lady Buff women's soccer team battled back from a 2-1 deficit for a 2-2 tie at league-leading Angelo State Friday evening. Junior goalkeeper and reigning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week Courtney DIppel had a season-high ten saves in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- WT redshirt freshman Hannah Kelley got her first goal of her Lady Buff career as she scored off an assist from sophomore Samantha Silvestre just 16:03 into the contest.
- Moments before the goal, Kelley had another chance at a score with the Rambelle "D" saving the shot instead of ASU goalkeeper Sammy Cude.
- ASU tied the game in the 34th minute as the Rambelles were awarded a penalty kick and Avery McNeme scored for a 1-1 game.
- The game was 1-1 at half as WT had five shots in the half and ASU had four.
- Early in the second half, Kelley kept up the attack for the Lady Buffs with an early shot and save from Cude. ASU broke through with the go ahead goal as leading scorer Trenadey Scott was on the receiving end of an assist from Megan Allen for Scott's team-leading ninth score of the season at the 57:52 mark.
- Just a few minutes later, WT scored as senior Lucy Chalgren tallied her first goal of the season for a 2-2 score at the 61:12 mark.
- From there, a flurry of action over the final 30 minutes by both teams with both keepers up to the task.
- In the first overtime, ASU had four shots with two saves by Dippel as she preserved the tie forcing the second overtime.
- It was WT who came out of the gates in the second overtime on the attack as Kelley tallied her sixth shot of the game, but Scott had a shot and save by Dippel in the final minute for the tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- WT now stands at 17-13-6 all-time with Angelo State and is 6-8-3 all-time in San Angelo with the tie.
- ASU continues to lead the conference by two points over WT as ASU now has seven points and WT has five.
- The Lady Buffs has14 shots with nine on frame and seven corner kicks in the contest, while ASU had 19 shots with 12 on goal and seven saves, along with five corners.
- Cude had six saves for the Rambelles as she entered the game ranked second in the LSC in saves per game at 5.5 and now has 38 for the year.
- Kelley had six shots with five on goal for WT in 110 minutes, while no other Lady Buff had more than two shots.
- Chalgren scored on her only shot attempt.
- Scott had six shots with five on goal also for the Rambelles. McNeme had three shots on goal and the PK.
