  • The Lead: West Texas A&M freshman Noir Hawash tallied her first career hat trick as the Lady Buffs downed UT Permian Basin Sunday afternoon, 4-0.  Hawash had four shots, three on goal with three scores and a penalty kick goal.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • The Lady Buffs got things going in the 31st minute as freshman Jessica Diaz scored her first collegiate goal as senior Lucy dished to Diaz following a free kick from 35 yards out for the score at 30:27. 
  • Hawash got on the board with her first collegiate goal as she stole the ball from UTPB and dribbled in and deflected off the post at the 33:47 mark for a 2-0 lead.
  • Hawash took a penalty kick in the 58th minute and put it past Chenoa Crites for a 3-0 lead at the 59:08 mark.
  • She then completed the hat trick in the 79th minute as freshman Calista Cordero assisted on the goal for a 4-0 score.
  • WT junior goalkeeper Courtney Dippel played 76:14 minutes with two saves and freshman Syneca Pysko played the final 13:46 with one save combining for the shutout.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Hawash's hat trick is the first one since Leslie Briggs had three goals against Colorado Mesa on Aug. 31, 2012.  Current Lady Buff Khadidra Debesette did have four goals against Texas A&M-International on Sept. 28, 2016. 
  • WT had 11 shots in the game and five on goal, scoring four times with two assists.  UTPB had 10 shots with three on goal.
  • Both teams had two corner kicks, while UTPB had 11 fouls in the game and WT had nine.
  • WT improved to 15-0 all-time against UTPB and has posted six-straight shutouts in the series and ten overall.  
  • The Lady Buffs sit third in the LSC standings with a 2-0-2 record and eight points.  Midwestern State beat Texas A&M-Commerce 2-1 Sunday as the Mustangs sit second with nine points, behind Angelo State who has 10 points and a 3-0-1 record.
