THE BASICS:

The Lead: The West Texas A&M men's soccer team battled back from a 2-1 deficit midway through the second half for a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon over visiting St. Mary's at The Pitch. WT senior Evan Bozman scored a goal and tallied an assist, while senior Rafael Vasconcellos added two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Buffs were called for a foul in the box 12 minutes in as Pato Botello Faz took the kick and freshman goalkeeper Alexander Vencel made a great diving save.
Following a corner by the Rattlers, Botello Faz scored off an assist from Kiernan Akers with a header back in from Akers to Botello Faz for his fifth goal of the season.
The Buffs got on the board as senior Evan Bozman had a breakaway and passed to junior Julio Vargs and back to Bozman for a header in front of the goal with just over five minutes left in the first haf.
The Ratters came right back as Tommy Fogarty-Cameron scored his sixth goal of the season for a 2-1 lead 42 minutes into the half.
WT tied the game at two on a great play as senior Rafael Vasconcellos passed off to Bozman who centered to junior Mirza Dizdarevic as he headed under the feet of Albo for the equalizer at the 67:57 mark.
The Buffs took their first lead of the game as junior Reece Schattle received a back kick from Vasconcellos as Schattle's kick went past Albo, who came out to attack, as the ball went off the far post and in for a 3-2 lead 74 minutes into the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

In the half, WT had four shots with two on goal and one score by Bozman, while SMU had seven shots with five on frame.Botello Faz had four shots with three on frame and a goal.
Vencel made three saves in the half, while St. Mary's keeper Mauricio Albo had one save.
The goal by the Buffs in the first half marked just the third goal in the first half for WT this season.
WT tallied 13 shots with seven on goal as Williams led the team with three shots.Schattle had two shots on goal with a goa along with the game winner.
SMU had 10 shots with eight on frame as Botello Faz led the team with four shots three on frame – all in the first half.
The Buffs now have outscored their opponents 14-3 in the second half this season with two goals Saturday.
WT now leads the all-time series with SMU 19-2-2 and improved to 9-1-1 against the Rattlers in Canyon.
Vencel had six saves in the game for the Buffs, while Albo had four for the Rattlers.

UP NEXT:

The Buffs head on the road for six-straight games and will return to The Pitch Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. against Lubbock Christian.
