LAWTON, Oklahoma – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M battled back from a three-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning but a walkoff two-run single in the home half of the frame gave the Cameron Aggies a wild 13-12 win in Lone Star Conference action on Friday afternoon at McMahon Field in Lawton, Oklahoma. The Lady Buffs snap a 10-game win streak to fall to 32-7 (17-5 LSC) overall while the Aggies improve to 29-13 (7-4 LSC) on the season.
The Aggies started off the scoring in the home half of the first inning as Breezy McComas started a big afternoon with a three-run homerun to left field for the early 3-0 lead. WT responded in the top of the second as
Shanna McBroom lifted a three-run shot to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Cameron took the lead again in the second as Paige Daino walked with the bases loaded and two outs followed by a McComas two-run single to center for the 6-3 lead.
The Lady Buffs used the long ball again in the top of the third inning as
Kylee Moore connected on a two-run shot to center field followed later in the frame by a McBroom long ball to left center at 7-6. McComas ran her RBI total to nine with a grand slam in the home half of the fourth before Moore connected on her second homer of the afternoon in the fifth to cut the lead to 10-8.
Cameron would add to their lead again in the bottom of the fifth inning with an illegal pitch with the bases loaded to head to the seventh inning with the Aggies leading 11-8. WT showed their resiliency again as
Ashley Hardin scored on a CU error followed by a
Shayne Starkey RBI double to right field to cut the lead to 11-10,
Alyx Cordell singled up the middle on a 1-2 count with two outs to drive in Moore and Starkey for the 12-11 lead. Cameron would use a pair of leadoff walks followed by a groundout before Daino singled to left field to drive in a pair for the 13-12 walkoff win.
Kami Merrill picked up the loss (3-1) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up two runs on no hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 1.0 inning of relief.
