CANYON, Texas – The third seeded Buffaloes of West Texas A&M enter their 14th NCAA Division II Tournament this weekend as they take on the sixth seeded Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT inside of Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colorado on the campus of Colorado School of Mines.

The Lions are guided by 17th year head coach Sam Walker. Entering the 2016-17 season, Walker stands as the second-winningest active coach in the Lone Star Conference with 266 career victories, and also ranks fifth all-time in winning percentage among coaches with at least 50 career victories, winning 58 percent of his games.

Texas A&M-Commerce enters the NCAA Postseason with an overall record of 19-10 as they finished the regular season with a mark of 10-8 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lions topped Cameron in the LSC Quarterfinals (54-52) before falling to eventual champion UT Permian Basin (63-76) in the Semifinals at the Allen Event Center. TAMUC is making their sixth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament ('96, '97, '98, '05, '15, '17) with an overall record of 5-5.

The Lions are led offensively by Malik Albert who has gone 164-of-371 from the floor including 38-of-128 from deep and 115-of-168 from the charity stripe while averaging 4.8 rebounds and 17.8 points per game so far this season. TAMUC has gone 824-of-1867 (44.1%) from the field including 198-of-642 (30.8%) from deep and 545-of-828 (65.8%) from the free throw line while averaging 38.4 (-1.9) rebounds and 82.5 (+4.8) points per game.

THE SERIES vs. TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
WT leads the all-time series against the Lions, 50-31 with the LSC foes splitting their regular season series as the home team claimed the victory in both matchups. Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs in the NCAA Tournament and it will be just the fifth time that the Buffs will face off with an LSC opponent in the NCAA postseason (2-2).

WT IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Buffs (24-8) enter the tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign as third year head coach
Tom Brown has led the Buffs to back-to-back 20 win seasons and three straight appearances in the LSC Championships. WT has claimed the most wins (24) since the 1997-98 campaign while finishing a perfect 15-0 inside of the First United Bank Center this season. It will mark the 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the Buffs since 1986-87 as they have gone 5-15 (.250) overall in the postseason with a run to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 1997-98.

The third-seeded West Texas A&M men's basketball team dropped a 68-63 decision to No. 6-seed Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball Championship.

The Buffs went 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the floor in the game including 7-of-27 (25.9%) from deep and 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the free throw line with 36 rebounds (five offensive, 26 defensive), 12 assists, 14 turnovers, four blocks and four steals. WT was led offensively by
Ryan Quaid and
Eric Golightly Jr. who scored 17 points each as Quaid finished the afternoon with nine rebounds.

LAST MEETING WITH TAMUC (FEB. 23, 2017)
WT moved to a perfect 14-0 inside of the First United Bank Center as they topped the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce, 100-98 in front of almost 1,000 fans in Lone Star Conference action in Canyon.

The Buffs went 29-of-58 (50%) from the floor including 11-of-31 (35.5%) from long range and 31-of-42 (73.8%) from the charity stripe with 37 rebounds (seven offensive, 30 defensive), 14 assists, 12 turnovers, four blocks and six steals. Chavlovich led the Buffs with 29 points followed by a new career high from Prince with 24 while Quaid led the way with nine rebounds.

NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAR. 7)
Northwest Missouri State picked up 14 of the possible 16 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 398 points followed by Bellarmine (1 first place, 379), Fairmont State (349), Hawai'i Pacific (1 first place, 345), Kentucky Wesleyan (335), Queens, N.C. (316), West Liberty (299), Indiana, Pa. (286), Shippensburg (265) and Kutztown (261) to round out the top ten.

The South Central Region was represented by Colorado School of Mines (11th), UT Permian Basin (17th), Fort Lewis (23rd) and Tarleton State (RV).

David Chavlovich was named to the All-Lone Star Conference 1st Team during Wednesday annual postseason awards banquet in Allen, Texas.
Jordan Evans was named to the All-LSC 2nd Team while
Ryan Quaid and
Eric Golightly Jr. were honored for their efforts in the classroom as members of the LSC All-Academic Team.

THE ROAD TO SIOUX FALLS
The 64-team field for the 2017 NCAA DII Men's Basketball Championship will begin the Road to Sioux Falls this weekend as Regional Tournament takes place on March 11-14 with the top seed in each of the eight regions across the country hosting the single-elimination event. The 2016 NCAA Division II Elite Eight will take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 22-25 at the Sanford Pentagon.
