No. 24 Buffs Rout Aggies 22-1 Behind Strong Performances from Canas and Littrell

Canyon, Texas. – Junior Nick Canas had five RBIs and Matt Latrell struck out seven over five innings as the No. 24 Buffs defeated the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State 22-1 in front of 357 fans at Wilder Park on Friday evening. With the win the Buffs improved their record to 7-0 while the Aggies fell to 2-6.

WT broke open the game in the bottom of the first with seven runs as they batter around the order for the sixth time this season. Bodie Bryan got the party started as he reached on a single to left field followed by a walk by Jimmy Cubillos putting runners on first and second with no outs. Adam Adkins brought home Bryan with a single to left field on a 3-2 count. Luis Amaro then took the next pitch up the middle to bring home Cubbillos as Adkins made his way to third. Troy LaBrie's single moved Adkins to third before Chad Brown's deep shot to right field brought Adkins home. John Baiada walked on four pitches in his first at-bat of the season followed by Nick Canas's second home run of the season making it 7-0 after one.

OPSU scored their only run of the night in the top of the third inning when Robert Rodriguez singled to left field to bring home Joseph Cerda with two outs. The Aggies were threatening again in the fourth when they loaded the bases but Littrell worked himself out of the jam getting Quinn O'Niell to pop out to Amaro to end the inning.

The Buffs batted around for the second time of the game as they extended their lead to 17-1 in the bottom of the 4th after Vallance picked up his second walk of the game. He would later steal second before advancing to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Cubillos walked on four pitches to put runners on first and second after Nelson Paredes' struck out. Blake Weaver worked a full count to load the bases followed by a bases clearing double off the left field wall. Labrie showed his patience at the plate as he walked after falling behind 1-2 before getting out on a fielder's choice as Chad Brown replaced him at first. Baiada picked up his first RBIs of the season with a double down the line as Amaro came to score while Brown was held up at third. Canas brought his RBI total to five at the next at-bat taking a 1-2 pitch straight to the centerfielder to bring home Brown and Baiada. Paredes picked up his second RBI of the season with a two-out double down the leftfield line. Cole Sanchez brought home two more runs as the left fielder was the unable to handle the liner as Sanchez advanced to third. He came up around to score a wild pitch as the Buffs scored 10 runs in the inning.

WT continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the 5th as Steven Weber led off the inning with a triple to left center before being brought around to score on a Labrie single. Darius Carter came around to score on Baida single into left field after reaching first on a fielder's choice to make it 19-1. Baida moved to third as Vallance sent a liner right up the middle before the Buffs plated three more as Paredes picked up an inside-the-park home run on a sharply hit ball to center field.

Matt Littrell picked up his first career victory in the Maroon and White as he went five innings striking seven on five hits and one earned run. Marhall Kasowski, Jamie Boyd and Thomas Garland combined for two innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out five.

The Buffs will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host the Aggies for a doubleheader at Wilder Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
