#4 West Texas A&M Rolls to Three Run-Rule Victories As They Remain Unbeaten

CANYON, Texas – The #4 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M outscored their six opponents 55-4 and tossed four shutouts on the weekend as they rolled to run-rule victories over Chadron State, Missouri Southern and Fort Hays State on Day 2 of the WT Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon. The Lady Buffs improve to 11-0 overall this season.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road next weekend as they travel to Tucson, Arizona to take part in the 2017 Cactus Classic at Lincoln Parl. WT is scheduled to take on the University of Mary, Academy of Art, Lincoln Memorial and Dixie State (twice).
 
West Texas A&M 10, Chadron State 0 (5 Innings)
Three straight walks loaded the bases with Lady Buffs with one out in the first followed by an Allie Smith two run single down the right field line, Kylee Moore singled to right field to drive in another run followed by a Shayne Starkey three run bomb off of the light pole in right center as WT took a 6-0 lead.
 
Shanna McBroom led off the bottom of the second with a solo bomb down the left field line followed later in the inning by a Smith RBI double off of the center field wall and a two-run Moore bomb to center field at 10-0.
 
Kilee Halbert (3-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up no runs on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts in the complete game win to run the WT scoreless inning streak to 26.
 
West Texas A&M 13, Missouri Southern 3 (6 Innings)
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the home half of the first inning as Maddie Green singled down the right field line with two outs and the bases loaded to give the Lady Buffs an early 2-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the second with an Ashley Hardin single followed by an Shea Ibrahim RBI walk, Kourtney Coveney made a heads up running move as the sophomore scored from third followed by a Green double to right center as WT took a 7-0 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Smith doubled home a run to give WT a 8-0 lead. Missouri Southern answered back as the Lions snapped a 30-inning scoreless streak with three runs in the top of the seventh inning with two outs to bring the Lady Buffs to the plate. WT responded in the home half of the frame as Coveney singled home a run followed by a wild pitch before Hardin ended the game with a three-run blast to right center for the 13-3 win.
 
Alexis Alfonso picked up the win (4-0) for the Lady Buffs, giving up three runs (three earned) on seven hits with one walk in her 4.2 innings of work while Chelsea Skipper finished off the final 0.1 on her birthday.
 
West Texas A&M 9, Fort Hays State 1 (5 Innings)
The Lady Buffs struck first in the home half of the third inning as Hardin singled to third base followed by a Smith two-run double to the left center field power alley and a Moore two run blast to straightaway center field to give WT the 5-0 lead.
 
The Tigers put up their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI groundout before Shayne Starkey forced a slow roller to the circle to end the inning with WT leading 5-1. WT responded in the home half of the frame as Hardin launched a solo bomb into the Buffalo Coral in left center followed two batters later by a Smith blast to right center for the 8-1 lead. WT ended the game in the fifth as Emilee Baker reached on a walk followed by a Brittany Cruz single to put runners on the corners, McBroom walked to load the bases followed by a Coveney walkoff single to right center to give WT the 9-1 win.
 
Starkey picked up the win (3-0) in the circle, giving up one run on four hits with one walk in the complete game victory.
