THE BASICS:
 
  • Score: Angelo State 51, West Texas A&M 3

  • The Lead: Angelo State posted a 51-3 victory over visiting West Texas A&M Saturday evening as the Buffs dropped their third-straight game.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • Two turnovers by WT on its first two possessions led to a 14-0 lead for Angelo State in the first quarter with an interception and a fumble. 
  • On the Buffs' fourth possession of the first quarter, following a blocked punt by the Buffs by sophomore Jordan Johnson setting the Buffs up at the ASU 29. 
  • WT used a fourth and one for a first down at the 19, but were unable to get closer as freshman kicker Alex Schrag belted a 31-yard field goa for a 14-3 deficit. 
  • The Rams tallied a field goal on their ensuing possession beginning a string of 37-straight points to end the game.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • For the game, WT struggled offensively once again as it tallied just eight first downs with 74 rushing yards on 43 attempts. 
  • WT had just 29 passing yards on 5-19 with three interceptions.  The Buffs had just 103 yards of offense in the game, while ASU had 154 rushing yards and 370 through the air on 28-45 for 524 for the game.
  • The Rams converted 24 points off five WT miscues.
  • The Buffs had a season-high 11 penalties for 133 yards, while ASU had five penalties for 29 yards.
  • WT was 3 of 16 on third down and 1 of 2 on fourth, while ASU was 11 of 18 on third down.
  • Junior Warren Witherspoon had 98 yards rushing on 31 carries, while junior Nick Andress had three receptions for 23 yards.
  • ASU scored two rushing touchdowns with four passing scores from quarterback Jake Faber who was 23 of 31 for 270 yards.
  • Senior Trevor Myklebust had a team-high 13 tackles with four solo stops, while redshirt freshman Keimone Davis has ten solo tackles and one tackle for loss.  Senio Daelin Young recorded nine tackles with one tackle for loss, one sack and a forced fumble.

  • The Buffs return home to close the season Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium against Western New Mexico for Senior Day.
