  • The Lead: The No. 10 West Texas A&M men's basketball team used a season-high 66 points in the second half for a hard-fought, 107-93 victory over Langston University who is ranked No. 19 in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) poll.  Senior David Chavlovich had a team-high 32 points, while junior Ryan Quaid added 18 points and 18 rebounds.  Senior Jordan Evans finished with 27 points for 1,007 career points on his 23rd birthday. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • In a tight first half throughout, the Buffs and Langston played a hard-fought half as Langston had a three point lead for its largest at 10-7 on ah triple from Dante Bailey
  • The Buffs came back with a 13-5 run for a 30-22 lead with 6:05 left in the half on a layup from freshman Gaige Prim.
  • Langston quickly erased the deficit with an 8-0 run highlighted by a triple from Bailey and a tip-in.
  • The Buffs built the lead back to four on a pair of charity tosses from Prim and senior David Chavlovich had a layup just before the buzzer for a 41-37 lead.
  • Langston began the second half making nine of its first 10 shots and held a 57-53 lead with 15:36 left on a triple from on a triple from Bailey.
  • Evans responded at the other end with back-to-back triples for a 59-57 lead with 14:45 left, but BJ Jenkins tied the game at 59 with 14:12 left.
  • From there, WT took the lead on a layup from Prim and built a 10-point lead over the next four minutes for a 72-62 lead capped on a triple from junior Gach Gach.
  • Langston cut the deficit back to three on a jumper from JJ Morris at 83-80 with 5:03 left, but once again, WT built the lead back to double-digits capped with two free throws from Chavlovich with 2:59 left for a 92-82 score.
  • The lead swelled to as many as 17 on tosses from Chavlovich at 103-86 with 1:11 left as WT settled for the 107-93 win.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • WT shot 15 of 37 from the field in the first half and struggled from beyond the arc, going just 2 of 12 after hitting 16 triples last night.The Buffs were 9 of 13 from the line.
  • Chavlovich and junior Ryan Quaid each had 10 points in the half as Quaid had a double-double with 11 rebounds.
  • Bailey had half-high 23 points for the Lions as no other Lion had more than two buckets in the half.
  • LU shot 40.6 percent for the half on 13 of 32 and stayed in the game on 6 of 14 from beyond the arc, while going just 5 of 12 from the line.
  • WT held a28-19 lead in rebounding as 24-12 in the paint.Both teams committed just four turnovers in the half.
  • Four Buffs were in double figures as Chavlovich was 10 of 19 from the field, but went just 1 of 8 from beyond the arc and 11 of 11 from the line.
  • Evans' 27 points came on 7 of 17 from the field and six triples, while going 7 of 8 from the line, while Quaid tallied 18 points and 18 rebounds for a double-double and freshman Gaige Prim added 16 points and eight rebounds.
  • Langston was led by a game-high 43 points from Dante Bailey on 16 of 22 from the field with eight triples and three free throws.He was one of three Lions in double figures.
  • WT shot an even 50 percent from the field on 33 of 66, while going 10 of 29 from beyond the arc and 31 of 36 from the line.WT outrebounded Langston 47-29.
  • Langston shot 32 of 66 from the field for a 48.5 clip, while going 13 of 25 from beyond the arc and 16 of 26 from the line.
  • This was an exhibition game for Langston.
  • WT head coach Tom Brown won his 70th game at the helm of the Buffs as he is 70-31 in his four seasons at WT.
