  • Records: West Texas A&M 4-0, Colorado State-Pueblo 1-3

  • Location: Pueblo, Colo. (Massari Arena)

  • The Lead: Down by 14 late in the first half, the No. 21 West Texas A&M battled back for a thrilling 91-80 victory in the final game of the 34th Annual Al Kaly Shrine Classic.  Senior Jordan Evan paced the Buffs with a game-high 25 points highlighted by a career-best seven triples.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buffs jumped out to an early lead at 9-5 on an "and one" by freshman Gaige Prim with 15:51 left in the first half.  A triple from Mika Nuolivirta gave CSUP its first lead at 11-9 with 14:23 left.
  • A big triple from sophomore Jordan Collins gave WT the lead back at 17-15 with 10:49 left in the half as CSUP had began to swing the momentum.
  • The ThunderWolves began a run with a layup from Corey Seng and then used a 21-5 run capped on a triple from Gavin Liggett with 5:34 left in the half as the Buffs went cold.
  • Late in the half, it was the Evans and Prim show as Evans buried a triple with 3:21 left for a 36-25 deficit and Prim added another "and one" for a 36-28 score with 2:12 left.
  • Collins hit his second triple of the half cutting the deficit to 38-31 with 1:28 remaining and later he earned the old fashion three-point play again cutting the deficit to seven with just over a minute left in the half.
  • Evans had the last laugh, however, as he buried a triple at the buzzer for his fourth long ball of the half and a 43-37 deficit at intermission.
  • From the 5:34 mark in the first half, WT closed the half on a 15-7 run.
  • Evans continued his strong play from distance in the second half as he buried his fifth triple pulling with within 44:40 with 18:25 left.
  • CSUP stretched the lead back to eight twice more capped with a triple from Seng.  However, from the 14:09 mark, the Buffs began their run to ultimately get back in the game and turn a 25-point swing from the 5:34 mark in the first half to the end of the game.
  • An 8-0 run followed beginning with the first bucket of the game for senior David Chavlovich who had a career-high 40 points last night.
  • Junior Ryan scored on a layup with 11:38 for WT's first lead since the 10:42 mark in the first half.  CSUP then built the lead back to four, but the Buffs kept fighting and Evans gave the lead back with his sixth triple at 9:13 for a 65-64 score.
  • Collins buried his third long ball tying the game at 68 with 8:23 left, then junior Gach Gach nailed a triple for a 73-70 WT lead with 7:05 left as the Buffs would never relinquish the rest of the way.
  • Gach and Quaid were huge for WT late as Gach had eight points and six rebounds in the second half alone to aid in the comeback.  He went 5 of 6 at the line with huge free throws and rebounds late.
