Box Score

Season Stats

THE BASICS:

  • Score: West Texas A&M 1, #8 Angelo State 0

  • Records: West Texas A&M 11-6-5, Angelo State 13-5-1

  • Location: Colorado Springs, Colo. (Mountain Lion Stadium)

  • The Lead: In almost a mirror image of last Sunday's Lone Star Conference Championship game, West Texas A&M sophomore Shanelle Arjoon scored the lone goal as the Lady Buffs posted a 1-0 victory over eighth-ranked Angelo State Friday in the first round of the NCAA South Central Regional.  Arjoon had the lone goal last weekend earning LSC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just as in the Lone Star Conference Championship game last week, the teams played to a scoreless draw through the first half.
  • ASU had the first look of the game at 3:23 as Mackenzie Broderick hit the post and then later, Elizabeth Rodriguez had a good look, but WT junior goalkeeper Courtney Dippel was there for the save.
  • The Lady Buffs had their first good look on a corner by sophomore Marlene van Mourik and a header by Arjoon with a save from ASU goalkeeper Sammy Cude seconds later.
  • ASU's Cassandra Moosburger had a shot and save by Dippel at the 16:36 mark, and teams traded shots and saves late in the half for a scoreless draw.
  • The Lady Buffs continued on the attack early in the second half as freshman Jessica Diaz had a good look with a save from Cude and redshirt freshman Hannah Kelley hit the crossbar.
  • Junior Khadidra Debesette had a good as Cude again was up to the task with a save at the 65:29 mark and Arjoon followed with another shot on frame.
  • Arjoon got the break through goal in the 73rd minute as she scored her third of the season in traffic inside the box for a 1-0 lead.  She scored the lone goal in the LSC Championship game almost at the exact same time as she scored at the 74:04 mark last week and today at the 72:32 mark.
  • Dippel came up with a huge save on a shot from Morgan Sibson in the 88th minute and, off a corner by the Rambelles, Ally Warren's shot sailed wide left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • For the half, WT had seven shots with three on goal, while ASU had four shots and three on frame.
  • The Lady Buffs had the lone corner kick of the half, while Arjoon led the way with two shots on goal.
  • Dippel had three saves in the first half.
  • Three different Rambelles each had a shot, while Cude made three saves.
  • For the game, the Lady Buffs outshot the Rambelles 14-9 and 9-6 in shots on goal.  WT had five corner kicks in the game to two for ASU.
  • Arjoon had four shots on frame to lead the team and the score for her third goal of the season.
  • Dippel had six saves in the game for her eighth shutout of the season.
  • For the Rambelles, Moosburger had two shotos on goal to lead the team.  Cude had eight saves in the game and the one goal allowed.
  • The win gave WT its third NCAA Tournament win in program history in its 10th trip.  WT now is 3-9-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • It also marked the first win for the Lady Buffs in the NCAA's since the Elite Eight run in 2009.
  • WT takes the season series 2-1-1 with the Rambelles this season.
