Season Stats

THE BASICS:

  • Score: West Texas A&M 1, UT Permian Basin 0

  • Records: West Texas A&M 11-4-1 (9-3-1 HC), UT Permian Basin 8-7-1 (7-6 HC)

  • Location: Canyon, Texas (The Pitch)

  • The Lead: A goal by West Texas A&M junior Troy Reeves at the 42:05 mark off a corner kick was all WT would need in a 1-0 victory over visiting UT Permian Basin Thursday evening on a windy and blustery night at The Pitch.  With the win, WT clinched its second-straight Heartland Conference West Division title.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buffs had four good looks through the first 13 minutes of the contest, but goalkeeper Alex Sproule was up to the task with four saves early.
  • The teams also had to contend with cold temperatures and a very brisk north wind, blowing at over 30 miles per hour.
  • WT got the breakthrough goal off a corner kick as junior Troy Reeves scored his fifth goal of the season on a header at the 42:05 mark with assists from junior Mirza Dizdarevic and senior Rafael Vasconcellos.
  • At the 58:52 mark, UTPB had its best look of the game as Gregory Echols hit the crossbar on a bended shot with the wind.
  • The Buffs had some nifty passing from junior Ivan Ulloa, junior Reece Schattle and junior Callum Challinor as Challinor had a shot and saw from Sproule at the 67:42 mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • For the half, WT had 16 shots in the first half with 10 on goal as nine different Buffs tallied shots in the half.
  • UTPB had three shots with one on frame as Sproule made nine saves in the half.
  • WT goalkeeper freshman Alexander Vencel had one save in the half.
  • For the game, WT had 23 shots with 15 on frame, while UTPB had 10 shots and three on goal with a good look late in the game with the wind at its back.
  • Vencel had three saves for the Buffs, while Sproule had 13 stops for the Falcons.
