THE BASICS:

Score: Texas Woman's 3, West Texas A&M 2 (OT)

The Lead: The West Texas A&M women's soccer team found itself down 2-0 through the first 22 minutes of play, but battled back to tie the game and force overtime where TWU sent WT home with a 3-2 loss on a golden goal from Lucero Chavez at the 93:12 mark for her first goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Pioneers, on Senior Day, opened the scoring 10:02 into the game as Haley Ward scored off an assist from Chelsea Martin on a shot in front of the net off a pass across the goal for a 1-0 lead.
The goal capped a string of five shots by the Pioneers over the first 10 minutes.
At the 22:46 mark, Martin scored off an assist from Maddie Nolton for her sixth score of the year on a rebound from the goalkeeper in front of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Buffs settled down and senior Sydney Hickerson scored her second goal of the season at the 32:19 mark for a 2-1 deficit.
The Lady Buffs had some chances at the equalizer late in the half, but two shots went wide and one was blocked.
The offensive attack continued for the Lady Buffs early in the second half with three shots in the first 10 minutes until sophomore Samantha Silvestre as Hickerson assisted on a deflection inside the six.
Both teams had chances the rest of regulation for the go ahead goal, but the goalkeepers were up to the challenge as junior goalkeeper Courtney Dippel had a save with five seconds remaining in regulation sending the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, Chavez got the ball from Jazmine Navarro for the score on a header into the near post off a cross at the 93:12 mark for the golden goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

For the game, WT had 13 shots with five on goal, while TWU had 18 shots and seven on frame.
Dippel made four saves in the contest, while Maddie Vickroy had three saves.
Freshman Noir Hawash had a team-high five shots with one on goal, while Hickerson had a goal and an assist on one shot.
Martin had four shots with one on frame, along with a goal and an assist. Ward led the way with six shots and three on frame and a score.
The loss was the second overtime loss for WT this season and marked the third-straight loss for the Lady Buffs, which is a season-high.

UP NEXT:

The Lady Buffs return home to host Eastern New Mexico for Senior Day on Wed., Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at The Pitch.
WT will honor two seniors playing in their final regular season game in a WT uniform prior to the match in Hickerson and Lucy Chalgren.
Following Senior Day, the Lady Buffs will finish the regular season at Midwestern State on Sun., Oct. 29.
The Lady Buffs sit fourth in the league standings with two games to play and have a two-game lead on Texas Woman's.
If the season ended today, WT would host TWU in a LSC play-in game Wed., Nov. 1 , with the winner advancing to the LSC semifinals (Nov. 3-5) at the regular season champion which still is to be decided.
