Lady Buff Volleyball Hits the Road for the UIndy Invitational This Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will make their first road trip of the season this weekend as they head to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2016 UIndy Invitational with matchups scheduled against North Alabama, Ashland, Lock Haven and the host Greyhounds at the Ruth Lilley Center.
 
- SCOUTING THE FIELD
NORTH ALABAMA
North Alabama is led by 13th year head coach Stephanie Radecki who has led the Lions to seven NCAA Postseason appearances.
 
The Lions enter the weekend at 4-0 with wins over Martin Methodist, Northwood, Tiffin and Trevecca Nazarene last weekend in Florence. UNA is receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Poll.
 
UNA is led by the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week Natasha Fomina who registered 61 total kills (4.69/set) to hit .364 with three service aces last weekend.
 
ASHLAND
Ashland is guided by sixth year head coach Cass Dixon who has led the Eagles to a pair of NCAA Postseason appearances.
 
The Eagles come to Indy with a perfect 4-0 mark with wins over Lock Haven, Charleston, California (Pa.) and Shepherd last weekend. AU is receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Poll.
 
Ashland is led offensively by three-time First Team All-GLIAC selection Alli Cudworth who has registered 77 kills (5.13/set) on 182 swings this season for a hitting percentage of .286.
 
LOCK HAVEN
The Bald Eagles are led by first year head coach Shannon Gerencir who was hired in July following a 14-year stint at West Virginia State where she made two NCAA Postseason appearances.
 
Lock Haven enters the weekend with an 0-4 overall record after falling to Ashland, Shepherd, Charleston and Stonehill last weekend.
 
The Bald Eagles are led offensively by Sarah Gomish who has tallied 52 kills (3.47/set) on 206 swings for an attack percentage of .131 while Sydney Belcastro paces the defense with 107 digs (7.13/set) this season so far.
 
INDIANAPOLIS
UIndy is led by fourth year head coach Jason Reed who has led the Greyhounds to a pair of NCAA Postseason appearances and two GLVC East Division Titles.
 
The Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 as they topped Edinboro while falling to Cal State LA, then #6 Wayne State and Colorado Mesa last weekend in Golden, Colorado.
 
UIndy is led offensively by Becca Lira who has registered 47 kills (3.13/set) on 151 swings for an attack percentage of .066 while Maggie Gibson leads the way defensively with 61 digs (4.07/set) in the back row.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 445-70 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
 
STARTING OFF STRONG
The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-6 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-2 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his eighth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 354-69 (.837, 12th year including a 218-49 (.816) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

MOVING ON UP
Senior libero Lauren Britten is making her way up the program's all-time digs list as the Amarillo High School alumni currently sits in eighth place in the WT record books with 1,626 career digs. She is one of only nine Lady Buffs in history with atleast 1,500 career digs and the Amarillo native currently sits 78 digs behind Lauren Thedford (1,704 / 2007-10) for seventh place all-time.
