Debesette Scores Twice to Lead Lady Buffs Past Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – Sophomore midfielder Khadidra Debesette scored two first half goals as the Lady Buffs defeated Texas Woman's 2-1 in both teams Lone Star Conference opener.With the win, WT improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Texas Woman's falls to 4-2, 0-1 in conference play.

"I thought we executed the game plan that we had been talking about all week," WT head coach Chad Webb said. "We really wanted to get an early goal to put them on their heels and we did exactly that. Khadidra continues to impress us every day and we are grateful for what she brings to our team. I think we played well defensively as well."

 Khadidra Debesette put the Lady Buffs ahead at 16:21 on a header from inside the box. Junior midfielder Katelyn Taschler picked up her second assist of the season after delivering a near perfect ball to find Debesette for the goal.

The Lady Buffs didn't have to wait long to double their advantage as Debesette picked up her second of the match and third of the season at 25:45 after she pounced her own rebound. The Rousillac, Trinidad and Tobago native hit the post with her first shot before corralling her rebound to score.

The Lady Buffs outshot the Pioneers 9-8 in the first half with four of those shots being on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Dippel had a strong start to the second half making saves on Tivona Tinsley and Gaby Larson to maintain the Lady Buffs two goal cushion.

Senior forward Ashlee Craig nearly made it 3-0 at 73:19 but her shot was saved by TWU's Samantha Jimenez. Senior midfielder Karyn Forbes was denied by Jimenez as well at 81:23 after finding separation from her defender.

The Pioneers got one back at 88:38 on an individual effort from Chelsea Martin as she neatly placed the ball in the left hand corner. The Lady Buffs didn't allow TWU to find an equalizer as they maintained possession until the final whistle.

WT finished the match with 14 shots, eight of them being on goals, and two corners.

Dippel made a season-high six saves for her third win of the season.

The Lady Buffs will now face No. 15 Texas A&M-Commmerce on Sunday, September 25 in Commerce. Live stats and video links can be found at GoBuffsGo.com under the women's soccer schedule.

·  With the win, the Lady Buffs lead the all-time series 14-4-2.

·  Khadidra Debesette now has a team-high five game winning goals in her career.

·  The Lady Buffs are now 2-0 on the season when they lead by two at half time.
