Lady Buffs Travel to Stephenville and San Angelo for Lone Star Conference Action This Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will look to turnaround their season this weekend as they travel to Stephenville and San Angelo to take on Tarleton State and Angelo State in Lone Star Conference volleyball action. Friday night will see the Lady Buffs take on the defending LSC Tournament Champion TexAnns with first serve set for 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym South followed by a matchup with the rival Belles on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside of the Junell Center.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs continued their youth struggles this past weekend as they dropped a pair of Lone Star Conference matches to Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon to move to 4-6 (0-2 LSC) on the season. Friday night's four set loss to the Lions snapped a 38-match LSC regular-season win streak by the Lady Buffs dating back to a 2012 loss at Angelo State. Saturday afternoon's sweep gave Texas Woman's their first ever win in Canyon in 23 tries. It marks the first time since the 1986 season that the Lady Buffs have dropped five straight matches and it is the first time since 1985 that WT has lost three straight matches at home.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 436-65 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.2%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist earlier this season.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 340-56 (.870, 12th year) including a 204-36 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
LSC volleyball teams are 64-35 overall this season. The squads are currently 12-4 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 7-2 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Angelo State's Mallory Blausser (Offensive) and Brett Katie MacLeay (Defensive) picked up weekly Lone Star Conference awards while ASU teammate Maggie Jo Keffury was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
TARLETON STATE
The TexAnns of Tarleton State enter the weekend with an overall record of 10-3 with a 1-1 mark in Lone Star Conference play, they dropped their league opener to Angelo State last week before topping Texas Woman's in four sets on Tuesday night in Denton followed by a non-conference sweep of St. Mary's in Stehenville on Wednesday night. The TexAnns are led by 11th year head coach Mary Schindler who led TSU to the program's first LSC Tournament Championship last season along with the first NCAA Postseason Appearance in school history. Tarleton is led offensively by the 2014 LSC Freshman of the Year Hailey Roberts who has tallied an impressive 305 kills on 625 swings with 102 attack errors to hit .325 on the season as she leads the LSC and Division II Volleybal in kills per set (6.10) and points per set (6.78). Chandler Gow guides the TexAnn offensive with 561 assists to average a league leading 11.94 per frame while Ayssa Garcia leads the team with 180 digs on the season. Tarleton State is hitting .259 as a team with 706 kills on 1,698 swings to go along with 266 attack errors while registering 674 assists, 746 digs and 112 total blocks in 47 sets played to average 2.38 per frame to lead the Lone Star Conference.
 
THE SERIES vs. TSU
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against Tarleton State, 42-3 with the TexAnns claiming the last meeting between the two teams as they topped WT in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Semifinals in Canyon last November. The Lady Buffs are 19-1 all-time in Stephenville with three straight wins against the TexAnns on their home court, the last TSU win in Stephenville came during the 2011 season in a five set thriller.
 
ANGELO STATE
The Belles of Angelo State enter the weekend with an overall record of 13-3 with a perfect 2-0 mark in Lone Star Conference play as they take a six-match winning streak into a matchup with Eastern New Mexico in San Angelo on Friday night. ASU topped Tarleton State in four sets last week followed by a sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday night in Commerce to remain unbeaten in LSC play. The Belles are led by eighth year head coach Chuck Waddington who has a 164-71 record at ASU after seven seasons, guiding the Belles to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Title Match in 2012 and 2013 and has led ASU to the NCAA Postseason four straight years. ASU is led offensively by defending LSC Offensive Player of the Week Mallory Blausser with 218 kills on 602 swings to hit .266 on the season while averaging 3.96 kills per frame, Maggie Jo Keffury guides the ASU offense with 650 assists to average 11.61 per set this season. Defensively, the Belles are led by Katie MacLeay with 334 digs to average 5.86 per frame while Zoey Hanrahan leads the team in total blocks with 43 to average 0.78 per frame. The Belles are hitting . 236 as a team with 839 kills on 2,305 swings with 296 attack errors to go along with 791 assists, 1,105 digs and 89 total blocks on the year to average 1.53 per set.
 
THE SERIES vs. ASU
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series againt Angelo State, 55-15 with WT claiming the last eight meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2012 season. WT and ASU has become one of the top rivalries in Division II Volleyball over the last few years as the teams have met 16 times since Jason Skoch came to Canyon with WT holding the 15-1 record including a perfect 6-0 mark against the Belles during LSC Tournament or NCAA Postseason play. The Lady Buffs are 23-7 all-time in San Angelo with WT claiming the last three meetings between the two teams inside of the Junell Center dating back to the 2012 season when WT fell to ASU in the regular-season before topping the Belles in a five-set thriller to claim the 2012 LSC Tournament Title in San Angelo.
